Small lump, 3 weeks post LIS. What is it?

Postby Lone_Walker » 03 Jul 2015, 22:06

Hello,

I'm 3 weeks post LIS now and everything has been going normal for me I believe.

Today I felt while taking a shower a small lump outside of my anus, doesn't hurt even if I apply some pressure to it but I find it very bizarre since I have not had that before the surgery or during my LIS recovery.

Could it be a skin tag? If so, what the hell!!!! Why now after I'm finally taking my life back with no pain? I read they can be painful and probably need removal ...

I feel helpless

Lone Walker. Skin tag formation is very normal following anal surgery. It's just the way this area responds to trauma. The really good news is that you say it doesn't hurt and so shouldn't interfere with your life. I find usually when the begin they are most painful but the pain usually subsides after some time. They most certainly don't need to be removed if not bothering you with pain or causing issues with hygiene. In fact many Doctors would refuse to do so. I have heard many stories of people getting them removed only to have others come back from the trauma of having them removed. It sucks, I know, I have a few from previous hemmies and now more from the surgery I had for an infection I developed from LIS.

Thank you msimon... I will not worry about it too much then as long as it doesn't hurt I guess.

I was very disappointed when I felt it, I thought I was going to be one of those success stories you know. I'm a cyclist and I can totally see the tag giving me issues when sitting on my saddle once I get back on the bike.

I will schedule my follow up with the CRS soon, I want to know his opinion.

Sorry to hear that. I found diaper cream (something with zinc in it) was helpful at getting them to calm down. Witch hazel was good for reducing swelling. I hope your CRS has something helpful to offer you.

Well, After the first month and 1/2 after my surgery I can say that the lump is gone, and I've never been better! I can't believe since 2011 I was suffering with this and never pushed myself for surgery, but hey, now that I have what a relief it is!

I still take my Benefiber 2 sometimes 3 times per day but is just part of my routine now. Pain has gone bye bye!

So terribly thrilled for you. I've been in good health now for 7 months (following LIS), and am grateful for my new and daily, most beautiful bowel movements! I suffered for many years too, and can totally relate to how wonderful it is to be out of that terrible situation. I still take Metamucil daily, and would never dare to give that up, because I have no idea if I still need it or not. I love my current bowel movements, and wouldn't risk changing a thing - EVER!

Congrats and I hope that you'll be posting soon in the "Success Stories" section.
