Retear after retear!!

Postby Neds » 14 Feb 2019, 06:04

Hi All,

So fed up now!! Had my fissure since Nov 2018 and been on Rectogesic for about 10 weeks now (given the ok by the Dr for the long term use)....

I seem to have a pattern where I have a week or two with absolutely no pain, and then BAM one random poo (my poo is generally soft or diarrea most of the time) and I get pain or bleeding again. The pain is nowhere near what it was when I first got the fissure and was rushed to hospital twice with pain, but its still there and very annoying!!

I feel like this thing has taken over my life!

Has anyone had this pattern of no pain, then pain etc and gone on to be fully healed?

I'm not fully healed but I ended that cycle. It's your diet. I ate healthier and cut out a lot of things and I take movicol and docusate sodium.

Ah do you think that's what it is? Can I ask what you changed yours to?

Sure, I avoid anything hard such as crackers, nuts, chips etc. I limit things like red meat, rice, white potatoes, and save take out/fast food 1 night a week.

I eat salads at lunch and dinner is 50% veggies. I prefer fish or chicken but like I ate homemade hamburgers tonight with grilled vegetables.

I drink 4+ litres of water. I limit caffeine but still have an occasional coffee or Pepsi Max.

PS grilled onions seems to cause a lot of gas that bothers my fissure. It's now on my list of limiting foods.

Yes Okaybum, how did you break the cycle? I know only success stories by surgery. I personally never made it longer then a year before having a relapse - even a minor one. Now I saw your post. I have a similar diet and completely eliminated all processed foods, sugars, grains and still experience random harder BMs.

I take an obscene amount of Movicol/miralax. I take 1.75 sachets in the morning then 1.25 in the evening. I take the mild 50mg docusate sodium in the morning and evening. Occasionally throw in some warm prune juice as needed but I don't need it.

Breakfast may be fruit or yogurt, smoothies, or a ham and cheese toasted gluten free wrap. Used to do Bircher muesli http://mylittlegourmet.com/breakfast/bircher-muesli/
But I think I'm gluten intolerant...

Snack fruit.

Lunch is salad with cucumber and 3 small pieces of feta cheese. Sometimes I'll add left over chicken into it like stir-fry or fajita chicken etc etc. But only a couple of spoonfuls.

Dinner small to medium piece of meat plus lots of veggies. Again aiming for chicken or fish, I don't eat steak but I haven't cut out meat.

Best easy poop meal: chicken stir-fry with zucchini noodles instead of rice.

I strongly suspect gluten intolerance and excess trapped wind and super stress is keeping my fissure from being 100% but I don't have retears.

Hope that helps (I've had fissures many many times starting as a baby. This is my first chronic one)

I'll add egg on avocado with toast is ok. And I'll sometimes snack on a hard boiled egg at work. My key is that salad at lunch.

Eating less helps and eating things like applesauce does. I avoid lots of salt but I'm going to try soup soon.

Here's my smoothie recipe: I also do an apple peanut butter one
