Hi all, as some of you know, I think the final step of healing my fissure after many months, was to use Estrace cream.
Oestrogen promotes healthy skin, and has been successful in speeding up wound healing in elderly people. Well, I'm not elderly, not menopausal, not oestrogen deficient, but I still thought it would be worth a try.
It took a few weeks, but eventually I was completely pain free, and have been so for 5-6 months.
Yesterday I had my regular ob-gyn check up, and I asked the doc some questions. He said that even if you have normal oestrogen levels, topical local application can still have benefits. I asked if it would be OK for men, and he said that small amounts applied locally would be fine. He said that if the dose was too high or not well tolerated, there would be nipple and breast sensitivity, in which case you'd just stop using it without long term harm.
So I say, if you are nearly healed but can't quite get rid of the last lingering pain, or if you are in that frustrating heal-tear-heal cycle, ask for oestrogen cream. I hope this helps some people.
