Re: about colonoscopy

Well, I was also told that it is forced on people for research purposes (collecting data) !!! Now they are pushing new age recommendation for people in their forties !!! It is almost impossible to refuse the procedure - ALL of CRSs that I saw and one GI wanted to do colonoscopy AFTER my fissure heals - can anybody explain that ???? I can't see any other reason but to squeeze out some more money from me. I don't think anybody will push anything in my butt any time soon !!!!!

I agree with you Fiss! Its about making money. Look at me - 28 y/o female with postpardum anal fissure and hemmies. They had me convinced I need this procedure, when it was obvious that I got my bum problems from delivery. I did not need mine done, but at the time they had me convinced that I needed it. Oh well, at least I know my colon is doing alright I guess.

Yea,
It's definitely a scam when they suggest someone 28 years old have it done. Hospitals and the GI docs make tons of money for a proceedure that is relatively easy and quick. The proceedure used to be done in offices until they figured out they could pump it up to around $3000 in a hospital. I do believe though that both males and females should have it done at least once after 40. I have plenty of friends who had pre-cancerous pollops removed with a routine colonoscopy. So for that it is really a good idea.
I had one about five years ago . I got all worked up before it - went in , and after they gave me the amnesia drug I asked when we could get it over with - they said you're done - get dressed .
FISS - You're tempting me - but no , I just can't go there - no comment ........... Ha !

he he - good boy ; ))) BTW, they already have technology to do "virtual" colonoscopy - using MRI. Some hospitals already have the machine and I am waiting for that to be available or I am not having it - period ! I have no history of bleeding and nobody in my family ever had polyps or CR cancer , so I am not in a hurry for regular colonoscopy :pale: ...I hope I did not jinx something Image , since as soon as I say that I am well something hits me over the head Image

Well, I'm off to start my prep in a few minutes. I'm a little nervous about what's going to happen, but I think I'm ready. I drank alot of fluids today to keep hydrated and ate popsicles and some jello. Hoping the phospho stuff stays down and I can get cleaned out well. I probably won't be on the board until tomorrow night if I feel like getting on the computer. Prayers would be great that everything goes okay. Thanks, guys!

Well, I took the phospho soda at 6:00 and really haven't needed to go. It's about 7:40 here now. Just a couple little hardish round bms and they made me bleed! Bummer! Still waiting for a real urge to go. I take 3 Dulcolax in about 20 minutes. I read it can take maybe up to 3 hours for the phospho stuff to work.
I went within an hour of the Golytely a few years ago. Not sure what's going on this time.
The phospho soda wasn't bad at all. I mixed it with apple juice and drank it through a straw. I held my nose and could tell it was really salty, but it didn't taste bad. So, at least, that's a good thing.
