Can internal hemorrhoids get better with diet? If so....

Postby Guest » 04 Oct 2007, 15:45

how long should I expect it to take? I have been following a very high fiber diet for 6 weeks now but still have hemorrhoids. What else can I try?
Thanks,
Jennie

I had a problem with this for several years. Are you straining at all when you go? Do they bleed or come out when you have a BM?
What really helped me was finally getting them banded. But mine were so out of control from pregnancy that diet was not going to help me. The banding only took a few seconds with very little discomfort. I would recommend it. I know is sounds horrible but I was in and out in a matter of minutes.

I would love to have mine banded. The CRS I saw wanted to do a stapled hemorrhoidectomy (called a PPH). After researching, I called back and asked the nurse about banding them instead. She said he doesn't recommend that at all. I think he wants $$$$. Should I see another specialist who is not a surgeon? Can a gastro do this?
Thanks,
Jennie

That seems kind of extreme not to try to treat them more conservatively first. Usually PPH is done for prolapsing hemorrhoids and hemorrhoids that can't be reduced or pushed back in.
I think you should see another CRS-that is who does the banding. I don't think a gastro can.

since you are in TN, there is a specialist center for hemmies here in the DC/VA/MD metro area that has the most advanced therapies for hemmies. they always have ads in our paper so i will try to find it this week and post back.....
but yes, get a second opinion and find a doctor that is open to all options. but also, if you get a similar response, perhaps its good to get a really good idea of what kind of hemmy you've got.

I’m not sure if the diet can help to shrink large internal piles. High fiber diet helps to keep regular stool and can help prevent the aggravation, but does not have direct effect on hemorrhoids.

I think you're right, Christine. I think once hemmies are at a grade 3 or 4, diet alone won't get rid on them. But it will help minimize further enlargement.

I can yell you nurse at hospital told me even if my hemorrhoids needed to come out gastro couldn't do it. You have to go to surgeon and my surgeon said they are using staple method now cause the recovery is a lot easier.

There are exercises you can try. I can't say whether they work - I tried but my hems turned out to be a fissure. Can't hurt, anyway: http://www.choosing-natural-health.com/ ... -cure.html
