Chronic anal fissure

Postby Elisa » 28 Mar 2021, 13:25

Hello everyone!

First of all thank you for this forum. I have been reading your posts for quite some time and they have helped me to understand the problem. Some of your suggestions helped me for some time and I'm very thankful for that. Unfortunately the problem was not solved on the long term. I have been suffering for anal fissures on and off for 15 years but since two years and a half ago has been non stop. There is no way I can heal it. I have tried supplements, a healthy diet, cutting gluten, sugar, alcohol, dairy. I took coconut suppositories, manuka honey, diltiazem cream, sudocrem . And nothing seems to work. I take stool softeners since 2 years ago and looks like the fissure is healed but as soon as I stop with the stool softener and I have a difficult bowel movement, the wound breaks again. I don't want to rely on the stool softener for the rest of my life but the pain is unbearable so I continue taking it. My doctor doesn't want to do surgery because of the risk of incontinence so I don't know what to do anymore. Is there anyone here with a chronic anal fissure that has healed without botox or surgery? What did you do? I start to think that there is no way I can heal this. I feel desparate and don't know what to do anymore! Thanks for the support and good luck everyone!

I've tried everything you mentioned and more I've also been put under and given botox TWICE and it didnt heal in the long term it keeps coming back. Its my fissure can't even handa normal bm anymore it literally has to be like soft serve ice-cream then everyday for the rest of my dam life if there ti be no problems but like you i don't want to take stool softeners for ever. Where abouts in the world are you? I'm in NZ and I'm waiting to see a surgeon currently to discuss other options.

Hey! I have been roaming around on this site for a wee while now. Especially wanting to see your posts missy moo, as I am from NZ too. I got an Internal Hemorrhoid from giving birth to my daughter, so had banding and an old skin tag removed. Worst decision of my life. the CSR who performed the surgery told me afterwards I did not need laxatives - I had asked him because my specialist told me I would get them. Anyway, got super constipated and ended up with fissures that have not healed, it's coming up 2 years In October. Mine are not too painful, and I have been fairly lucky in that I can sit at the desk all day and do my job then sit in the car and drive home etc, but I find exercise tends to open them back up and I love/need to exercise. So I am struggling with that. I really wish the cure for fissures was as easy as getting a broken bone fixed.... I am thinking of trying self dilation or maybe diltiazem cream again and maybe magnesium. I have tried them both, and found really helped. Otherwise apart from that I guess it would be Botox...

I just knew it, had a feeling you were in NZ. I would recommend giving botox a go no it cant hurt anyway the worst it can do is not work. You don't want to look back after 8 long years of this rubbish like i do. I have so many questions I'll pm you

Hi there, I've had many years of pain and troubles with my fissures. I've had botox, stenosis revision surgery, another round of botox, nifedipine, gtn, everything. I've had good stints where everything is fine, then I have sex with my partner and we cant even get started before my scar tissue tears open. So recently I took up dilating every day twice a day with some vitamin C face cream and it has worked an absolute treat for now. I don't know how long this will last but to poop without pain this morning for the first time in years has been a miracle. make sure you sprinkle some flax seed on your porridge or bran every single morning, maybe consider dilating if you can tolerate that? (i use cocoa butter as lube which not only smells great but is thick enough to stop any friction)
all the best
let me know if you have any questions

Hi Fissurefrustration,

Thanks for the info! Keep it up and let us know how your doing in a few weeks/months, I would love to know. I am currently applying a small bit of diltiazem morning and night, as well as taking Magnesium, not citrate, just Magnesium to help with relaxing etc. It has helped a lot, no bleeding or pain. But I am thinking I need to give Dilation a go.

I have also wondered about this hand cream I have been using on my feet. For the last year my feet have been horrible - like yellowing, cracked, flaking skin on my heels, so bad you could just rip chunks off, so gross. But i started using Neutrogena Hand Cream on my heels and they are so good now! now I am thinking if i could try in on my fissure - but nervous to be putting cream down there, that is not really for internal use etc... ?
thoughts anyone?

Yeah I've bwen nervous to try creams to but i guess something made as natural as possible would be fine the bums inner tissues are similar to our lips or onner cheeks it also absorbs things really well so it cant be bad for your lips i guess. I've always thought if i would put it in my mouth it can go on my fissure haha ie coconut oil, honey, vit e. Etc

I’d leave the cream off for now as your skin could get too wet and you’d end up with a fungal infection. Keep up with diltiazem and when you dilate start small and try a good lubricant or cocoa butter but make sure the area isn’t left too wet after

Actually I've just had a light bulb moment. With child birth your recommended to insert capsules of eveing primrose oil weeks leading up to giving birth to prevent tearing during childbirth. Tmi but i tore with both my first two and the 3rd i didn't which shocked me i think its because i used the oil and online it has saved alot of woman from tearing its like a miracle oil. I mite start using it just 1 capsule per night pop it in right before bed an leave it. I actually noticed a big difference in my skin down there when i was using them just healthier skin. Could be worth a try. It makes the skin more moist and flexible.

Yeah, I’m going to stick with the diltiazem, but thought once I’m done with it, maybe could try the hand cream and like an additional healing cream for after.

Will see later down the track. Missymoo try the primrose oil and let me know how you get on! Any luck in getting a date with a specialist yet?
