My GP prescribed some Colace for me, but I'm confused by the lable. It says not to take it for over a week and that extended use can cause dependence! But my doctor gave me 200 capsules worth (one capsule, twice a day). Will this make me dependent???
Please, does anyone have any natural alternatives I can try in the long term? Maybe I should just go ahead and try the prune juice, but just once a day in the morning. I'm a little reluctant to try the Aloe Vera because I heard it can affect fertility. I really need help to find some consistency.

I have always read, and have been told by my own doctor that the colace does not cause any dependency. I would not worry about it -- I took it for about 5 months or longer and when I stopped, I could not tell any difference in my bowel movements..

I took Colace on and off for 4 years and did not develop a dependency on it.
I think it has a pretty proven, safe track record.
I take aloe vera now (just one capsule). I hadn't heard it affected fertility though.
