Downhill

Postby vdb324 » 20 Dec 2013, 15:10

So, the last few days went down hill quickly. I went from no bleeding with one or two bms daily to bleeding with at least three bms daily. The nurse didn't really have any advice. This is nearly three weeks after Botox. The stools are sticky, so they are harder to pass fully. I'm not sure what to change in my regimen at this point to decrease bms, which would probably mean less bleeding, and get a better consistency. Any ideas?

It's tricky and a bit trial and error IMO. Some people go more often than others, naturally. I find when pain worse I need to go more often, whether due to pain or stress, or diet management to try to control it I don't completely know.
I would say going more often is fine providing the consistency is good and no forcing is needed to empty the bowels.
My diet, IBS state and psychological handling of it at the moment results in me going twice in the morning most days before leaving home and I'm usually good for the rest of the day, which for me is good, as with IBS I can often feel the need to go a few times during the day but when I get to the loo I don't need to, but then do, but not :).

Not sure what to suggest, depends on what you are already doing? With cutting out coffee completely, drinking more water, only 4 cups of tea a day, and at least a glass of apple juice in the evening I seem to be able to empty bowls completely each morning (albeit usually with two BM's within 30 mins) and that's it until the next morning. Not sure if this is temporary improvement however and despite this had a really painful after-BM expeerience the other day and feel I have regressed a bit.

All the best and I hope things improve for you soon :smilyhug:

The bleeding still seems significant. Do you all have tips to cut back the bleeding? I have no pain, thanks to Botox. Despite how scary the blood always seems, I think I prefer it to the spasm pain.

Blood can be very scary, but it is not of significant importance ( at least that's what my CRS told me). What is more important is if you have pain or not. If you pain is decreasing I think is a good sign. Continue sticking with your fiber, drinking your water, and avoiding hard or running BMs. With time the blood will be less and less until you will barely spot. ( it happened with me.I didn't have Botox, but I managed to cure my fissure). If you continuing having a lot of blood and this is really troubling you. Please call your doctor.

By the way are you taking any stool softener? Could it be that you are taking too much, that's why your BMs are too soft and too frequently? , maybe if you cut a little on them you will manage to have only one BM a day and with tooth paste consistency?
