Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

Postby Lsfb1989 » 07 Mar 2017, 15:52

Hi,

When I saw the CRS, he booked me for a flexible sigmoidoscopy, just in case there is anything causing the fissures/nasty up there. I have had a colonoscopy years ago, so I know the procedure! I was just wondering/worrying about the pressure it will cause on the fissure. Had 6 weeks of Diltiazem, fissure receded, and one day of constipation has caused the bastard to reform with a vengance. Can I still have the procedure if its raging? Booked for this coming Tuesday.
Thanks :)

You can have it and the scope itself should come in different sizes makes sure you ask for the smallest one and explain you have an active fissure....for me it's the prep that's the hardest but that's because it aggravates my crohns.
You can of course cancel it as long as you and your doc are confident there is nothing suspicious going on up there....I have to have one every 6 months but have refused to have one since the fissure arrived 18 months ago coz there is no way my butt is going through the prep.

Luckily the prep this time is an enema, the picolax for the colonoscopy left me red raw before the procedure even started.

I had the full colonoscopy with two active fissures - my gastro said he used the smallest scope, and he knocked me out completely in case of pain.

No aggravation at all!! If you let them know that you're worried about the fissure they will be careful!

Just home from having it done. Pretty upset, the dr couldnt see it. I know its actually really bad right now, waiting to see CRS in May. Could it be she was looking for a posterior one (mine is anterior) or that she didnt (ahem) part the cheeks enough? The pain and bleeding I am in says I damn well do have a fissure!

Hunh! They didn't say they saw any reason for the bleeding? I know I had one that was between too small hems and they did have to look pretty hard for it, but it was visible during the scope.

They just said the bowel was clean and healthy, but couldnt see fissure. I could see the sentinel pile easily, i think it covers the fissure. Its definately there, its agony every time I use the toilet or actually fart! I did get local anasethic to the area which was thoughtful.

Ah ok. Well the CRS should be more help, they see this stuff all the time! Any chance of moving up your appointment or getting on a cancellation list?

Just been to the toilet first time since the procedure. Sprayed blood all round the bowel. So I dont have a fissure, huh?! I know I do, the dr I am sure looked in the posterior, not the anterior!

No sign of hemmorhoids either? They can cause lots of blood for sure. Otherwise sounds like you're right!
