Hi I’m new any advice?

Postby Dazed&confused » 20 May 2020, 18:16

Hi there,
So nice to find this forum I’ve been looking for something like this for weeks! So grateful to know I’m not going through this alone. I first started experiencing pain in 11th March, I had stomach cramps and left my yoga class because of them. I thought the best idea was to have a BM to ease the pain but oh boy was I wrong. I strained and was in so much pain, but I left my yoga mat in the class so I had to go back and finish the class.

Anyway lock down happened and I was so worried about that I didn’t have time to think about the weird pain my bum. I did some web doctor consultations and found out it was either a fissure or hemorrhoids. After so much pain I finally caved and tried to go the GP. Not as easy as you imagine. I got seen eventually and the doctor couldn’t see anything so is treating for both a fissure and hemorrhoids. I’m so frustrated I feel like they didn’t look properly. I can see something like a fissure and upon my own examination I can feel a cut inside.

I’ve been prescribed two weeks of scheriproct suppositories, and a month of Rectogesic applying once a day. Also I’ve been taking Movicol once a day in the evening. I’ve been taking magnesium for over two weeks, using sitz baths occasionally and I’ve started calculating every gram of fibre that goes into my body (aiming for 25-30g)

I honestly don’t feel like my pain is improving that significantly and I’m getting really frustrated. I’ve tried upping the Rectogesic to twice a day after reading posts on this forum.

Has anyone got a recommendations or advice or opinions?

I really want to solve this myself without surgery as I only recently moved to Ireland and am unfamiliar with the healthcare system + covid  I cant go home anytime soon.

Hi there, so sorry you have to deal with this in the middle of the covid craziness. It looks like you're on the right track but I'd suggest that you go see a colorectal specialist. GPs love to prescribe steroids for fissures, I really don't know why, but the steroids will thin out tissue and reduce healing. The scheriproct may not be a very good idea right now since you aren't diagnosed with hemorrhoids.

Also try reducing some insoluble fiber because that can make BMs bulkier and more painful. Take care, and I hope you will heal soon.
8/16-12/16: Fissure due to antibiotics
5/17: Botox to sphincter, fissure healed
9/19: Trigger point injections and pudendal nerve block
11/19: Botox to pelvic floor
8/20: Botox to pelvic floor in new location.
On and off in pelvic physical therapy
