I have been hovering over the toilet seat and spreading my checks a little trying to make my bm a little easier on my fissure. Is this a good idea or am i making things worse? been trying to use Vasoline to. My fissure is on the left hand side. Man I never thought in a millions years I would be asking a question like this.

From what I understand the best position to be in is a squatting position. It places the hips in such a way that helps things along. You can achieve this by using a box or step stool that makes your knees slightly higher than your hips.

As far as spreading your cheeks... I don't know how that would impact things. I wouldnt do it if it hurts at all. The fissure is like a cut on your finger. You want to be careful not to pull the healing wound apart.

I bought a squatty potty that fits right around the base of the toilet. I have found it helpful and it was not too expensive, about $40 or so I think.
