How did you heal

Postby kmax1940 » 24 May 2010, 06:25

Had LIS surgery almost 2 months ago...
Still have the fissure as much as I ever did.
I will have no blood or pain for 1 week... then bang!
It starts again.
I might go for 2 weeks and be ok... the bang!
Is it normal for it to come and go like this?
The thing is... this is EXACTLY the way it was before the surgery.
I use metamucil & colace twice a day.
And vaseline when I go.
The dr. says thats all he can go besides some extreme surgery that he does not recommend.

I would suggest you find another and more competent surgeon!!!! This one obviously did not do a good job to begin with since after the LIS you should have steady healing (maybe with little steps back occasionally -but it should definitely be better than BEFORE the LIS and in a big way !!!!).
He also is not giving you any other options and what he is suggesting - he is not good at - that is why he is "not recommending it" !
Do you have regular soaks ????

Oh , I am sorry to say : (((, but you really have to stick with a fissure friendly diet regardless of the LIS : ((. You have a fissure to heal !!!! And even after it closes it will need about 8 mos to a year to completely regain it's strength !!!!!
If you eat unhealthy - no softener in this world would completely remove "accidents" of hard poop happening Image
Please be patient and stay on the fissure friendly diet for along time !

well the stool is soft... very soft... but the tip is big... thats the problem... and the stool is never the same from day to day... so it is hard to regulate no matter what...
thanks for your time!

It is good that you go every day , definitely. You are no exception, actually I go 2-3 times a day and was like that my whole life and still got a fissure - so do not feel as a "deviation" LOL
The hard tip is a result of that part being in the colon the longest (24 hours). *sigh. Do you drink a lot of fluids and avoid alcohol and caffeine ??? They can be very dehydrating.
Also - do try some more potent softeners for a while (like Miralax) that keep water in the poop more evenly distributed Image Or Milk of Magnesia
I would really try Benefiber powder for couple of days instead of a Metamucil since Metamucil makes that tip BIG and if it is also hard - oh boy Image
