LIS tomorrow -nervously excited?

Postby Bottominal Blues » 30 Apr 2012, 18:54

Well, after reading the success stories of others on this forum I got up the courage to ask for LIS (well, it wasn't that quick, had to wait 4 months to see the CRS, then the wait time until surgery...but it has been a year now since the pain of AF began, and I have had enough!). Had a colonoscopy today (CRS wanted to do that first and timing was good, just one prep for that, stay on clear fluids the rest of today and tomorrow surgery. Apparently I have a perfect colon, at least some of my parts down there are perfect!) Question, what kinds of foods are best to eat after surgery? Should I right away tomorrow go back onto Resoralax until I am healed? How bad should I expect the pain to be? (unfortunately my spasms have been so minimal compared to what they were months ago and I almost cancelled surgery, but then I remembered sitting up all night rocking and crying, no relief from the pain.....) What else should I know? I want my life back and wish there was an easy fix, but as we all know, that doesn't seem to exist..... Wish me luck! Anne

Hi Anne,
Welcome aboard and best wishes with your surgery tomorrow. Image
As for food after surgery, I remained on the same high fiber diet after my lis as I did before surgery. Really, for me, I made no changes until my first post-op crs visit. I had my bm's on a consistent and smooth routine and didn't want to mess that up immediately following the surgery. I also was taking 2 stool softeners and one dose of miralax per day after surgery.
Each persons pain is evidentally different, based on the individual...and I also approached my lis pretty much spasm free for a few days before.
But it is wise to keep the pain you've been through in the forefront of your mind...you came to this decision for a really good reason, a few spasm free days doesn't mean much when it comes to fissures...they always seem to creep up from behind and rip the rug right back out from under you when you least expect it. My experience was much less and different pain through initial part of
recovery. Just a true relief from the spasming..it's not a walk in the park, but it's no longer hell on earth..so IMO it's well worth it and short lived.
I wish you well and look forward to your updates of progress and healing.
Rest well tonight, Image
