long term AFs dangerous?

Postby thisunpleasant2 » 09 Mar 2014, 17:05

Hello,
I have had my fissure for two years now, and pain levels are lower after 2 rounds of botox but the fissure still bothers me very much. My CRS has told me that it is a benign ailment but I am wondering if anyone has spoken to a CRS about the possible dangers of waiting too long to cure the fissure. It can't be good for the body to hava a wound like that for years on end. I am terrified of the surgery but am wondering if I am going to create other problems waiting so long before doing something about it...
Any feedback from other CRS would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading.

I have been dealing with AF for 6-8 years now. Still alive. However the stress from both the pain and the uncertainly are not likely adding to my life expectancy, I am sure. I don't just have AF though: I deal with Crohn's (with a j-pouch), transverse myelitis, peripheral neuropathy, tinnitus, and spasms. Some days I just wish I could turn the volume down. It is like my body screaming from the inside . . .

None of my physicians seem to think that fissure leaves me at any risk for serious infection or other issues. I guess that remains to be seen.

I've had a fissure for three years now and I'm pretty sure no cream is going to heal this thing! I think my only option is some sort of surgery like an 'anal dilation' or botox injections. LIS is the last on the list.

@lefthanded: I also have Crohn's (18 years now) and it's a real drag dealing with a fissure at the same time. I can't imagine having all those other issues to deal with as well. Have you had any surgery for the fissure or just left it for 8 years?
