Messy Cleanup?

Postby sadies-day » 07 Jul 2012, 06:21

Maybe I'm the only one with this problem but I figured I'd ask, does any one else have difficulty cleaning up following a BM? I'm a little over a week out from LIS but have had this problem both before and after surgery. It seems like it takes forever to get things clean down there. I've been using wet ones and balneol since surgery but even with that I got through a half a dozen wet ones, take my bath, and then need to use a couple of more. All that wiping makes for one irritated hole. It's even worse when you're out and about and have to go and don't have access to your multitude of cleaning products (being a guy it's difficult to hide all that stuff in your pockets).

My CRS recommended I stop ALL wiping - wet or otherwise (of course, this isn't possible when I am out in public, so I try to time my BM's when I am at home).
Here's what I do now: after a BM, I immediately hop in the shower. I bought some Johnson's Foaming Baby Wash. I squirt a bunch in my hand and gently dab it on the affected area. I have a removable shower head with adjustable settings, so I turn the water on (cool to lukewarm) and thoroughly rinse the area. Having a removable shower head allows me to get real close to the area. I usually have to apply the baby wash a couple of times. Then, I hop in the bathtub if needed. After that, I use a hairdryer on a cool setting to get everything nice and dry. This has kept me very, very clean. In fact, at my last visit, my CRS complimented me on how clean everything was! I still get irritated down there on a near daily basis, unfortunately (probably from the BM itself - I think it happens because each BM is stretching a tight sphincter, but who knows?), but at least I am not making it any worse by wiping.
I hope your recovery is going well!

I have not had LIS, but i think since you just had your AS cut your gonna have a problem with clean up, at least the first month or so till you gain some tone down there and you can keep things locked in.
