Old question...

Postby Mimi » 31 Aug 2010, 17:56

Hi, everybody
I posted this question some months ago and I'm hoping to get new and fresh opinions on it.
I know everybody is extra careful with their diet and keeping the stool soft, so I feel like a freak, but I actually try to get my stool as hard as possible. The harder the stool, the less pain I have, I swear!!! I don't get constipated easily, but I have stopped eating fruits and for a while took calcuim tablets to try and get me constipated. I don't know if that has anything to do with the fact that my AF was a result of Hypertrophied Papillae after pregnancy. In the beginning I had pain that went away after not going to bathroom for a few days, then last April the pain came and never left.
Just wondering if anybody else feels the same way or everybody is on the Soft Stool Team?
When I first posted the question many months ago someone suggested that may be I needed to bulk up my stool, but eating more fibre just makes me go to the bathroom more often.
Anybody can help?

Hey Mimi,
Too much fiber doesn't work well for me either. The stools are to bulky and I go more than I want to but hard stools aren't good for fissures, especially constipation. That can make your fissure worse. I have had stools that hit the water like a rock that didn't cause me any pain or re-tear,and some of the softer ones did the opposite. I have no idea why. I eat fiber daily and probably don't get near what most others on here do. I also take 3 stool softeners a day and that seems to be working for me.
I would be very careful about getting constipated though or making your stools too hard. That's what caused my fissure Image

Hey, Dawn
Thank you for replying so quickly.
On "Hard Stool Day" I can go without pain meds (Motrin 400-600mg), while when it's soft I know I will be miserable for the rest of the day and driving is out of question.
My only possible explanation is that when it's hard the stool passes the fissure kind of on the very surface and it does not get inside and irritates it.
On that delicious note I'm off to make dinner.
