Pain pump

Postby woundedspirit » 24 Aug 2014, 21:43

Has anyone ever heard of or been offered a pain pump after rectal surgery. The kind where it consistently pumps numbing medication directly right into the wounds? (Not the kind you push a button and get narcotic into your IV). As someone facing flap surgery, I would be very interested in this.

When I was preparing for surgery I was told when I came round I would have been given an epidural for pain relief. You can top these up ....... Is this the kind of thing you're thinking about??

I did not get this, however, as I had a less invasive flap in the end.

Ah, yes I can see where an epidural would be effective but I believe that wears off pretty fast. This pain pump has some sort of attachment right to the wound area and it can be worn for several days. I will try to do a search and see what I can find on the web.
