Postby Tutdee1 » 09 Jan 2014, 19:35

I've been suffering off and on for a year now with an AF. I had a friend recommend to put Dr Tichenor's Mouthwash on it..Has anyone ever heard of or tried this before?

Did you try it?? (Eeek!)
LOL - I have to admit that when I was struggling to cope with the pain, I pretty much considered most items in my bathroom as a form of relief!! Mouth wash was not one of them though!! :)

Hi, I would think that mouthwash would be like an astringent and dry the area way too much. I know witch hazel can soothe a fissure but it too can be over drying as it shrinks the blood vessels. To heal a fissure you need blood flow to the area. When too much scarring occurs there isn't enough blood flow and that's one of the reasons a fissure won't heal. Suzy

Oh no I've never tried it. I'm too scared, lol. I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of this or tried it.

It's really just alcohol, which most dentists aren't even thrilled about for using in the mouth these days (thinking it's better to use low alcohol in the delicate mouth/gum tissues). There are easier, less painful and gentler ways to clean the anal area. If it worked for your friend it was likely despite using this stuff rather than because of it.

LOL jr2. I now use non-alcohol mouthwash because my cheek tissue easily blisters which I think is after years of using alcohol mouthwash.

I'd guess whoever said that has no idea. I'd rather poor gasoline on mine and set fire to it. Painful, yes, but might then have a new one surgically built hopefully without fissures :). Just kidding, that isn't possible.
