glycerin suppositories when bleeding

Postby guest1 » 06 Feb 2014, 15:06

I have been constipated for about 5 days and cannot figure out how to normalize stool. I started to take PEG or Miralax and waiting to have an effect. The main problem with my stool that it is hard in the beginning and then it gets softer. It reteared a lot and it bleeds more than usual now after bms. MY GP suggested in addition to use glycerin suppositories to soften the stool when its hard. I afraid that it might retear the fissure since it takes about 15 min to melt.
Did anybody use suppositories when you have open fissure that bleeds? Does it burn?

I have also decided to be on liquid diet today and probably for few days.
Thanks for any comments

I used baby glycerin suppositories when I could not have a bowel movement. They were much easier to insert as they were narrower than the adult ones. I keep them in the fridge to stop them melting.

The first time I used a glycerin suppository was when I was bleeding. It did burn, which is kind of uncomfortable, but it's nothing compared to how painful it is to pass a hard poop with a fissure. And, at the risk of TMI, the stool came out like toothpaste, and it was actually a huge relief as I hadn't gone in a day.

So yea, it will burn, but it shouldn't be any worse than the pain of passing the stool without it. It also doesn't risk tearing it even more!

Thanks for your comments. I have used it for 2 days until Miralax started to work and it helped.
