Hi, owmybum. I'm so glad you got a diagnosis and a treatment plan. I had the double advancement flap last april. It helped me so much. I had severe anal stenosis and that's why I needed a double flap. I still have stenosis but it's functional now. I wish I knew how to post a picture here because I could post what it looked like right after the surgery. I'm doing pretty good. I still have to be careful and the surgical site can get very tender if I have too many bms or diarrhea. It doesn't last long but it can happen. I still have to keep stretching the area with a dilator but that's because of the extensive surgery I had. The donor sites are tender too but the doctor told me 2 years for recovery. I've had a few spasms occassionally but they are brought on by the pressure of having to have a bm sometimes. As soon as I go they go away and they are nothing like before surgery. I take miralax in the evening but I've had to cut my dose in half. My only regret was not doing the surgery sooner. I waited until things got so bad there was nothing else I could do. If I can help anyone, I'd tell them not to be afraid of surgery and doing it sooner rather than later speeds your recovery. Keep thinking postitive thoughts and follow your doctors instructions to the letter. The biggest risk from flap surgery is infection. I was able to keep things really clean because my husband helped me so much. Take care and try not to worry too much. All the best Suzy.

Thank you Suzy,
I have not yet discussed the results of the pressure test with my CRS.... But they were done on the principal that if they were still normal it would be advancement flap. I will speak to him tomorrow, so will know for sure if that is the plan.
I'm sure I will be bombarding you with questions as soon as I get a surgery date, but your successful healing gives me lots of hope and encouragement. Thanks!!

Had my telephone consultation with CRS yesterday.... And we agreed on the advancement flap surgery.
I will go in the day before surgery and get cleared out with enemas.... Then stay in on bed rest for a couple of days after to give the skin the best chance of adhering.
He has put me on the waiting list.... So ...... Watch this space!

Hi I had advancement flap surgery March last year with botox. It was a bit tricky post op as stitches burst due to constipation after surgery. I did heal very well but it did take 3 months to heal fully. I recommend being on some movicol before the op so it is in your upper digestive system before hand especially if you are given tramodol post op for pain relief. I did have a bit of a double whammy as also had a investigative laparoscopy at the same time. Much better now but still getting fissures- beginning to think due to IBS/ hypermobility syndrome but no spasms.
