Miralax

Postby blessed » 20 Mar 2014, 09:51

I have been taking miralax for about a year now. Never would it ever give me diareahh until now. I get it anywhere from once every week to two to 3 times a month. My stomach is really bubbly when I wake up and sure enough I get it around noon. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it time to cut it out? I eat a regular diet... Eat 5 times a day and the only things I don't eat are red meat and cheese. My bms have been perfect so long now I'm afraid I'll have to stop using it. Oh I only take half a cap too. Should I take even less? Any help please! I know diareahh can be just as bad as constipation

I would cut it down very slightly (a tiny amount) and see how it goes. I get stomach problems too, but I don't eat anything different, just happens.

I had exactly the same thing happen using Movicol (that's what Miralax is called in the UK) after nearly three years of no problems at all. My GP prescribed a generic version instead and that has solved the problem. I'd try E.g. the Target or similar generic brand. That may help.

Hi, if you're getting diarrhea from miralax just adjust the dose. I used to take almost 2 + capfuls a day after surgery I tried one but it was too much. It took a little trial and error but I'm down to 2 1/2 tsp. in the evening with tea. If I feel a little sluggish I just add a teaspoon. That's what's so nice about it. It's very easy to add or subtract a little until you find what works for you.

I took miralax for 2-3 months and had this exact same problem. I would get crampy diarrhea once every two weeks or so, the rest of the time I was fine and my stools were the right consistency. Thankfully I had read about it on this forum and other people had resolved the problem by switching to the generic brand, too. I've been taking the walgreens generic brand for 6 weeks now and the problem has resolved.
