Colonoscopy today

Postby Hurtswhenisit » 24 Mar 2014, 18:22

Hi everybody, Tony the worry wort here. Well I had my colonoscopy and for now I'm all clear down there. Still have the evil fissure but I guess I have to cope with it. For the past two months that all I thought about was having some problem down there that caused the fissure well it was probably diet. I have to say I'm still a mess. I went to my GP to grab my test that I had done to bring to my GI (blood work etc...). Well me being a hypochondriac I was curious to look at them myself, like I knew what I was reading anyway. Well one thing that stood out was my total testosterone level. The range was 170 -1000 and I was 247. This stood out to me. So of course I went on every damn website on google and to my knowledge that's awful. Now I think I have a brain tumor or something. I've lost my mind. And it's not for the reason just about sex but these levels are horrible for your all around health. Well I made an appointment with a urologist and I guess I'm gonna have to take it one step at a time. I have a family to support so I have to keep my composure. Since I've had this fissure my life has been a nightmare...

Hi tony,

That's great news that your colonoscopy came back all clear! .. Just that darn fissure to heal then!

As for your testosterone level..... It really was a mistake to go looking on the web for answers... It's always worst case scenarios that you read on there. I would hold off on the worrying until you speak to someone professional about these results. Even then.... They are still within range, all be it the lower end, but within ' normal' range.

Try not to worry x

I know a lot about testosterone levels, and I know they will fluctate a lot during the day, and even from day to day. Make sure you have the test in the morning, and repeat it a few times. Also be aware that stress, anxiety and illness will affect your levels.

Besides, total testosterone does not tell the whole story. You need to look at SHBG, LH and FSH too. If your SHBG is low, your free testosterone will most likely be OK, and free is what matters.

If LH is low it indicates your pituitary is not asking your testicles to produce more testosterone (secondary hypogonadism), but if LH is high it indicates a problem with your testicles (primary hypogonadism).

If we are assuming you are not above 60yo, then I would say 247 ng/dl is too low unless your SHBG is low too.

But even with 247 ng/dl I woundn't worry about it affecting your health much unless we look at the long run. 20-30 years down the road.

Im pretty sure further tests will show its higher when taken in the morning on a day you feel good!

Best of luck
