Itchiness & Rash

Postby vdb324 » 16 Jun 2014, 16:55

Before surgery, I got a terrible rash that was super itchy. I am two and a half months post-op, and the doctor said the fissure appears to be gone, and he didn't see anything in terms of a rash. I discontinued the baby wipes, but today, the rash seems to be full force - especially when I walk - to the point where it's raw and feels like it's burning. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can stop this or at least remedy the burning/itchiness?

As a side note, I was using vaseline prior to each BM, but I also discontinued this a few days ago, and the rash seems to be acting up more. Should I continue not using Vaseline and wipes? I can't figure out what would be causing this if the fissure is gone...

I would not use wipes at all. If possible use good TP with water. I don't think the Vaseline can hurt or cause a rash. You might want to try balmex or AD ointment that can help protect the area if it's just irritated. Check with your doctor. Good luck.

Thanks. We will see how it goes, as I just picked up some A&D. Not sure how I feel about sitz bats; I am still doing them out of good practice, but perhaps that moisture is also irritating? Always seems to be at it's worst in the afternoon and evening, most bm.

I use honest company healing balm on my sons diaper rash and it works like a charm. Might help here? I think the sitz baths might not help with a rash since they only add moisture.

vdb, I'm 8 weeks post-op tomorrow and still have irritation. My healing is going extremely slow. At least it feels that way to me. Here's a link to my latest thread about that irritation-after-lis-t8397.html. My husband is a pharmacist and he made an ointment for me that doctors call Magic Butt Cream for babies. It's equal parts Desitin (zinc protectant), Clotrimazole (anti-fungal), Mylanta liquid (acid reducer) and a little bit of A & D ointment. It helped with the irritation. I was thinking I maybe had a yeast infection from using the antibiotic cream for 4 weeks post surgery. My doctor has asked me not to do sitz baths or wipes at all. I use a water bottle for cleaning after a bm. Here's the link for that. http://www.amazon.com/Brondell-GS-70-Go ... able+bidet I got it at Amazon. I hope the link works.

Praying for you!

I use the same water bottle. It's much less irritating than paper or wipes. I had a GYN recommend drying off with a blow dryer to make sure the area was completely dry. I've never tried it, though, because it seems too time consuming. Best of luck!

Yep, I use the blow dryer as well. First I dab with toilet paper and then use the blow dryer.
