Movicol

Postby Rachael 1984 » 17 Jul 2014, 02:08

Hi everyone,
Over the last week or so, I've been having lots of grumbling and pain in my stomach directly after taking Movicol.
Now I'm getting too softer stool which irritates my bottom. :groan: my diet is the same and I need to reduce the Movicol somewhat.... I take 2 sachets a day, so I'm thinking to do 1 3/4 sachet first to see how that goes! I don't want my stool to then go too hard! Agh. Has anyone else had this. I've been on the Movicol for nearly 2 years, so I'm also worried about such long term use. I'm doing pretty good with my diet, so maybe I also need to reduce the magnesium. I take 4 a day of those and 2 Vit C. Maybe I'm overdoing it! This is a pain in the bum, literally!

Any help or comments!?

Hi Rachael,

I have been on the Movicol/Miralax daily for about a year and a half. I have had the grumbling and pain after taking Miralax. A couple of thing that have helped me was to reduce the dose, take it when eating a meal and take a probiotic. I do not take magnesium as it turns my stools to water. I have talked to two doctors about the long term use of Miralax and they were not concerned. I hope something here helps.

I take 2 sachets of movicol...... But I don't take anything else like magnesium.... I also found it made my bms way too runny. Why not cut down on a couple of magnesium tabs first and see how it goes??

It's just such a difficult thing to get stools reliably soft every bm... Especially with IBS... It's like spinning plates!

Name brand miralax gave me the crampy grumbling diarrhea once every week or two. I switched to the generic brand per a recommendation on this forum and never had that problem again.

Thankyou everyone.
I'm taking less Movicol, only a little though... And I've reduced the Magnesium dose. Seemed okay the last few days. A better consistency. Now another issue that I'm finding is when the BM exits, if it's faster than usual I go into real bad pain, and if I have 2BM, my day is ruined. I am guessing this Is all to do with the high resting pressure, it feels like bricks are exiting out of my back end, but when I look they are no bigger than a Bristol 4..... Ugh.
