Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation

Postby Alyssa » 17 Oct 2014, 14:48

Was wondering if anyone has tried a TENS unit for chronic pain... did it help?

I just got mine this week and it keeps my mind off of my rectal pain...

I used one of those machines when I was in labour with one of my kids! They help with mild to moderate pain I would say. I hope it gives you some relief!

Yes I have heard that they work quite well for some people. My Aunt had terrible unexplainable tailbone spasms and wore it all day long while commuting and working and it got her through. What has been your experience so far?

I've only used it 3 nights for about an hour... I did not know that you can use it all day long... But it helps me be distracted from my burning pain.

Yes I have a tens machine. I used it quite a bit in the early days of my chronic pain. It seemed to be most effective when I used it for an hour each time.

I ended up using it 24/7 for a few weeks, but eventually I found my pain could work around it after a while.

Certainly worth a go though, as not everyone's pain and treatment for relief is the same.

I used to place a pad on each buttock and also over the sacroiliac joints.

That reminds me. My pelvic floor physiotherapist said we could try an internal tens machine. I must ask her what's involved with that when I see her next.

I like the fact that it distracts me from my pain but noticed more soreness around my back... I put the electrodes right on my buttocks... Weird..

Yes do tell me about the internal tens...
