Hi, I had my surgery over a year ago. Thankfully I don't get this burning all the time. It happens when I have too many bms especially diarrhea. The skin will burn and the area will start to feel tight but it's really not. I usually dilate when this happens and it helps. It's very annoying and scary but it's good to know that this is also quite common and I'm not doing anything wrong. My doctor did tell me it would take at least 2 years for things to settle down and I believe he's right. When they tell you recovery is 6-8 weeks that's just initial recovery. There are so many nerve endings in such a small area. When you take into account all of the trauma that small area has had to endure it's no wonder it takes a long time for some of us. Suzy

I'm so sorry. Are your pelvic floor exercises helping any? I have some exercise I do too. I find what helps the most if things are burning and feel a little tight is dilation. I have to do this once a day as part of my recovery but I find it helps when there's burning too. I think the muscles are so used to spasming that even when they don't have to they do sometimes. It takes a long time for things to settle down after each trauma. Just don't give up. I keep a journal that way a week or month or year from now I can look back and see how far I've come. Hope you feel better soon, Suzy.

Alyssa,

It might be time to start the dilation if you haven't already started?
