What do hemorrhoids look like?

Postby Mae » 04 Dec 2014, 17:27

I've been having a dull ache around my anus so I squatted over a mirror and the skin around it looks... lumpy. Kind of a pinkish purple color, actually the same color as my labia which is what I thought it was at first... The pain is VERY dull and kinda comes and goes. Doesn't feel any worse after or during a BM. I'm 23, and I'm not sexually active.

This does sound like hemorrhoids to me Mae. They are purplish because they are enlarged veins. What really works for me it frequent warm baths, witch hazel compresses and rest. It doesn't sound like they are thrombosed as those are very painful.

I have also noticed that they get worse when I've been sitting for awhile. So I'm lying on my side now xP

They are more pink than purple. I have no itching or burning. It just feels like swelling/pressure with an occasional achy twinge.

Are they internal ones that are poking out? I heard that you can push those back in. But I'm scared to try anything like that til I see a doctor..

More pink may indicate that they are getting better as that sounds more like skin tags (they leave behind skin tags when they heal sometimes). When did you first notice them? I always would lay on my left side (the hemorrhoidal plexus drains out the left side) as much as possible and avoid much standing or sitting until some swelling improved. Gentle aerobic exercise is supposed to be good too. Another trick I had was to take a container of hot water and a cloth and while laying on my stomach, ring out the cloth and place it between the cheeks (while it is warm and not too hot) and keep doing this for 10 minutes at a time, keeping the cloth warm. You could even add salt to the water as this can pull out some of the swelling. I found that the heat would open up the blood vessels and laying on my stomach would enable the swelling to drain out and away from the area. Hope this helps.

I first noticed them two days ago on Tues. Monday was the day with the sharp pain and blood, but I've had no blood since then and my stools are getting softer. I would agree with you that the hems are probably healing except for the fact that the twinges of pain are new. Didn't have them before.

We should have a chat session. lol.

It could have taken a couple of days for the muscle spasm and nerves to become involved. You are also more aware now probably. I know I can tighten my sphincter quite a bit just by worrying.

Yeah I was stupid for making so many posts. I thought it'd get more notice that way xD Does chat work from mobile?

I have noticed that when I cough or laugh I feel a twinge.

Hi Mae, not sure if u are still having issues, but if u were still wondering what hemorrhoids look like, I just noticed there was a sticking thread in this hemorrhoid sub-forum, that has pictures of each classification of hemorrhoids: hemorrhoids-classification-with-images-t7477.html

Hope things are going well with you! :)

Hmm okay, well now that's confusing. Cuz mine actually looked a little like the picture of the stage-one internal. I thought internal hems weren't visible unless they prolapsed? But it looked like a squiggly line like that. Still does, really, though the feeling of pressure is gone and there hasn't been any blood for nearly a month. I'm so confused...
