What supplies did you need after surgery?

Postby Deleted User 4296 » 05 Jun 2015, 16:30

I'm having my surgery next week and I was wondering if anyone can tell me what I can get beforehand to help post surgery. I have a sitz bath already. I have read maybe a donut to sit on. Any other suggestions for supplies?

I personally would not recommend a donut as it seems to concentrate pressure on the perineum and has been said to cause hemorrhoids. You will probably not want to sit at all for a while post-surgery. Are you having LIS?

You will probably want some pads or gauze to absorb oozing. You will probably also want a stool softener, pain meds and something to do to pass the time while you rest (ie., book, movies, etc).

Yes, I have taken it for years as I have had issues down there for a long time and needed to always keep things soft. I also take magnesium supplements and a tiny bit of psyllium fibre.

Hi there ! Hope all will go well or was okay. A big relief for me was a Beanbag to sit on because it takes the shape you want it to have so no undesired pressure where you don't want! Also sitting like a mermaid in that thing was quite comfortable. Not sure if it's clear but it's the closest image I found to try and figure it out.

Fiber like Benefiber or Metamucil, stool softener, stock up on fiberous fruits and veggies (the best thing for your stools and recovery). Also I recommend a heating pad to sit on if you get any spasms right after surgery. I found heat therapy really helped. I had the surgery 3 weeks ago and these things really helped.

Great tips! I'm 2 days post op. Just waiting on that dreaded first bowel movement.
