Risk factors

Postby Garrod » 19 Jul 2015, 04:10

My issues with perianal abscess and recurrent fistula came rather as a surprise (no Chron's). I run a healthy lifestyle, in terms of diet and physical activities, more than average person around me, and I don't smoke. Though with some stress and sedentary lifestyle due to my job, and occasional weakened immune system which potentially is the main risk factor in my case.

I kept wondering, for all these months, why on earth I have to deal with this thing, since I do my best in keeping myself healthy! Working in science myself, I turned to scientific publications and I am posting some here, maybe others are concerned with this too; if you have other info you can post it here.

It seems that being young and not having a diabetes doesn't help! Diabetes is often cited as a risk factor, but this study contradicts that view:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20196412

Smoking: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21552051 but previous one says it makes no difference.

See this too, lists many of them:
