Hi...is this forum still active? where else can i go?

Postby Deleted User 4605 » 07 Oct 2015, 17:22

Hi everyone...anyone?

I was just wondering if this forum is still pretty active/lively?
I noticed a lot of old posts dating from a few years back. I just registered so i haven't had time to familiarize myself and find the active threads/conversations....if any?

Is this forum still active enough to have conversations and support everyday?
If not, where are all the AF sufferers gathering & chatting online these days?

:thankyou:
pita

:wel: We are here and know where you're at as most of us have been exactly where you are/have been.

Yes, the Diltiazem can cause a rash, eventually. I never put it inside; don't need to as it heads straight into the bloodstream. Also, this whole mess can screw you up in many ways...I lost 40lbs and spent 28 months lying on the sofa, and basically only escaping the pain at night with the help of a muscle relaxant.

My story lies below. We are all different on here. Some doing surgery, some just fighting through as they can. There is a vast amount of info on here (use the search you can find directly under the photo above, between FAQ and Portal, where you can search by Topic). Also, at the very bottom of the Forum, you can get an idea of how many people have been here in the last 24 hrs, so you know you are not alone. :sunny: I don't know of other forums out there, but you found us! :D

Welcome pita-girl. You have found a wonderful support network here. I am over a year out from my simple fistula surgery and still come here for the wonderful support and humans connected to this forum.

I am sure you will feel better once you see a specialist. The worry before often is much worse to deal with!
Many people's experiences with fistulas are different, what lead up to them and symptoms. Mine is outlined in the diary section of this forum. It turned out to be much less scary than I thought too and I deal with an anxiety disorder. I never had an abscess and none of the colorectal specialists I saw believed my symptoms matched Crohn's or colitis, so I was not tested.
My fistula presented with the "pus" like discharge. And there was a pinhole near my anus. I honestly thought it was hemorrhoids at 1st since that is what a GP and the 1 CRS believed. I was pretty confident mine was a fistula after some research and when my fiance called the CRS again to tell him what he was seeing (pinhole and pus), he confirmed it likely was. I booked a 2nd opinion and it was confirmed.

Since you have been in pain with a rectal exam before be sure to let the doctor know. They know it's not comfortable and some doctors simply aren't the best at it. CRS do this everyday so they will be sure to keep you comfortable as possible. Try not to stress TOO much about whether it is or isn't a fistula. No matter what, they deal with this weekly if not daily and will be able to get you some clarity and feeling better, I promise. It gets better! Worry can cause you to tighten up, so be sure to rest, get baths in, take time for yourself, eat well, lots of water and reach out to others. You are not alone here and can share or ask whatever you need. Feel free to PM me if you need another 30 something year old woman to vent to if you have rough moments and don't know what to ask or say here. Just KNOW people are here and the great thing is, we as a group are used to all this bum, poo and all sorts of TMI chatter, so welcome and hang in there!

:') Thank you Manitourose! I'm so glad i finally registered so i have ppl to talk to. Ppl who don't have these problems really don't get the pain & agony...not that I openly share with most ppl.

Thanks for sharing your story too. I'll be sure to watch for any small holes or discharge. At this point I'm still hoping it's only a zit from an ingrown hair or reaction to creams.
Thanks for telling me the fistual is not necessarily such a big deal...i needed to hear this.
Yes, I'm sure once i talk to specialists I will feel more reassured, I hope.

Are you fully healed now?

Yep, am fully healed up. :)

Saw a new CRS 6 months after surgery when I moved to a new city, fully freaking out that I had caused myself problems. Turns out, healed perfectly with the fistula and my problem was now a deep internal fissure this go round. Why not experience that too. :-P In my case, fissures go hand in hand with stress and likely I had suffered from them on and off before my fistula. Even that though has healed for the time being, took time but it did.
Knowledge is power - knowledge about what you have and how to best treat yourself (medications/treatments and self care). The road is a tiny bit less bumpy once you have that in your bag.

Aw that's so nice to hear ^-^ yay!
I'm so glad for you.

Can i ask one last question: Was your fistula caused by an abscess or fissure...or something else, or unknown?
I've yet to find how to read ppl's diaries (or write my own) i really need to take the time to learn to navigate one here.

Thanks again and I hope you never have any issues again!

My fistula was considered "idiopathic". They have no idea why it came about. My personal guesses for my case are: chronic and poorly managed anxiety (I was also in stressful grad program at the time) or food poisoning I had in 2010 which seemed to trigger more bowel issues after. Either I suppose could have resulted in an infection I was unaware of in the anal glands and the bacteria generally will find a way out, which creates the fistula tract. Realistically though, they have no idea.
I had no known history of an abscess, no known or diagnosed fissures or things like that in my history. The CRS who treated me said he sees idiopathic fistulas and they weren't as rare as medical literature seems to make them out to be.

To get to the diaries, I think you click "home" on the upper left and then scroll down past the main topics. The subject should be listed somewhere near "success stories". You'll get the hang of navigating the site quickly :)
