How long does it take to heal?

Postby Ando666 » 22 Apr 2016, 09:02

Hi all

Today it has been 6 months since I started taking Movicol for my fissure and have been pain free ever since.

The exception being after 4 to 5 months I gt brave and didn't take any for 5 days. I had a moderately painful BM and a bit of throbbing afterwards (which surprised me as I thought I would be fine).

Has anyone any ideas or experience on how long to wait? Maybe I'm beyond healing and need surgery to fix this?

All the best.

Sorry for your suffering. Best thing to do is speak with a gastro specialist or surgeon to determine on what exactly is to be done. Pls inform us on your findings.

My CRS told me it could take up to a year until everything is back to normal. If you feel your BM are too hard when coming off laxatives (you should cut down on this gradually, not cut out overinght), and it's causing problems, go back to what you were doing and was working and try again in a couple of months. Also talk to your doctor as mentioned.

I healed more than 2.5 years ago.
If I have a harder than usual BM, I still can feel some irritation. Usually just for a day or two, and sometimes when I stand and bend forward for long time, I get some strange feelings down there too.
From my experience, I had fissure-like sensations (not pain) for more than a year after I was confirmed healed.
BTW. I still take magnesium to keep my BM soft, and I plan to continue for the rest of my life.

Good luck!
