Need to vent.

Postby Iowbarney » 15 Jun 2016, 13:00

Hi.
I am fed up and need to vent to someone. I have suffered with a fissure for approx 2.5 years. Last June After being on waiting list for an operation for some time for a fissure, I went private and received Botox. It didn't clear up the problem and so had an operation last November. The aim was to have an investigation, scrape away the tear and have more Botox. The investigation showed a large 5cm polyp which had to be removed separately so the surgeon just injected Botox and left tear alone.
I then had to have 3 colonoscopies with nhs whilst they decided how to remove the polyp without full surgery.
I finally had a complicated colonoscopy in February to remove the polyp which took about an hour and was agony.
The fissure was aggravated again but I just kept on going hoping that was it. It turns out the polyp was precancerous so I am supposed to have another colonoscopy to make sure it has all gone.
Easter time I had trouble going to toilet and unbearable pain. I went back to surgeon who diagnosed a fistula as well as fissure.
So 9 weeks ago I had surgery again. He scraped away the tear, opened the fistula, removed another polyp and a pile. Then injected Botox which I'm not sure has worked as well this time.
Recovery has been very slow but steady. At the 6 week check the doctor examined me causing bleeding and real pain going to the toilet again. Coupled with having to sit in a hard chair for hours the following day I am in pain again.
When I had trouble with the fistula I decided to restrict my food intake under the assumption that the less food that goes in the less that comes out. I think it has worked but now whenever I try to eat more normally my stomach rebels and I end up with pain and or upset stomach causing more pain going to toilet. I take movicol but struggle to get the quantity right. Some days my stools are too loose and other sluggish.
The doctor did tell me it was healing well and would expect to take 3 months to heal. He said there was a new tear from the surgery so may need more Botox but the fistula shouldn't come back.
Sorry this is so long but I needed to be heard and maybe some sympathy. I'm fed up with it. I'm sure it will heal but I just want to be 'normal' again.
Thanks for reading. X

Oh my goodness you poor thing....that is so much to go through, did they not offer to do the LIS while they were doing all the rest or is your sphincter tightness not an issue,
I have only had this thing for a year and let me tell you it has been the worst year of my life...I think I have a very high pain threshold...given birth no pain relief....passed a kidney stone no pain killers...dislocated knees had them put in no pain relief....
They all pale into insignificance compared to the pain of the spasms and the unrelenting daily agony of a fissure. Just had a fissurectomy and Botox...need to gave LIS later as it's a deep long fissure.
You have my sympathy and respect if you haven't experienced this kind of pain it's pretty impossible to imagine it
Sending virtual hugs

Thanks ever so much for your quick reply. It really sucks doesn't it? I've taken so many ibuprofen that I have ulcers in my bowel. I'm trying not to take so many now. The surgeon didn't want to cut the muscle. He scraped the tear away instead. Hoping that's worked.
I hope you don't have to wait too long till you have the Lis.
How long did it take for the fistula surgery to heal?
It's nice to have someone to talk to about it who actually understands. X

Oh yes it certainly sucks...I can't take ibuprofen because of my IBD but as I'm rarely constipated I do take codeine which isn't great but a person has to sleep and how can you do that if your in agony. Seeing my surgeon in October he specialises in bowel disease and is highly recommended...he did want to try Botox twice but I was like hell no we try once see if it helps then cut the sucker...I don't care about incontinence half as much as being in pain, and he was understanding enough to agree.
Thankfully I have never had a fistula just two fissures a small anterior and a very long and deep posteria.
It is hard trying to explain the daily turmoil both mental and physical to someone else x

Sorry I miss read your post about the fistula.
Yes it does affect you mentally as well as physically.
I've always suffered with constipation so cannot take codeine.
My husband has been great support but I try not to moan about it so much now as it feels like it has taken over our life for too long. I envy those people that poo without pain or the apprehension leading up to going. X

My husband was good fir the first few months but now he's just bored by it...he's never been ill so can't really empathise with any illness. This is one thing that impacts on your whole life...you go out to eat...you have to be very picky...you go to cinema, hurts like hell to sit. Go walking need to know where a loo is. There is no aspect of our lives it doesn't impact on.
I'm with you on that my hubby n kids can eat anything and go to the toilet like clockwork once a day in the morning...jealous doesn't even come close lol x

You sound just like me. Last time we went to cinema I had to stand by the entrance to watch the film after a bit. We stopped eating out as I can't eat much.
I feel guilty moaning as I know many people are worse off but sometimes there seems no end to it. Feels good to now know someone who is just like me. Lol x

We used to go to the cinema every week only been once since this started...I'm boring when I go out I order chips or potatoes and thankfully no one feels to bad eating lovely food while I eat that lol
I don't think it's moaning as we are still carrying on with our lives working looking after family ect...I think is healthy venting that stops us becoming depressed.
I went out with friends today (couldn't eat) and joked that instead of being a crazy cat lady that people try to avoid...I'm the crazy anus lady lol x
