LIS + Tag removal. Do I really need LIS?

Postby Intobetterdays » 24 Nov 2016, 15:09

I went to my doc for anal tag removal as it was not healing on its own and was troubling me here and there. I have healed my fissure that I got last year, and tag pain is nothing like fissure pain.

On my first visit with this corectal specialist, he said I need LIS as I'm a bit tight. But I have no issues with constipaition or painful BM. My BMs are generally smooth and effortless, I take obsessive care with my diet since the fissure.

I'm booked for LIS day after, but it's bothering me. I really feel like I might not need LIS and that if he just cut the tag, life would be good.

I'm scared about the healing time. I have to go travel to USA in a month (28 hour flight) and I'm scared I won't be able to make the journey while recovering from LIS.

Please advise?

Hi, great to hear you healed your fissure, lots of people recover really well from LIS and after 2 weeks are completely back to normal. Others like myself have a tough time and really slow healing I'm just over 2 weeks and it still hurts to sit and my spasms have come back worse than ever. Unfortunately we never know which we will be until after the op.
There is always the case of if it's not broke why fix it....but on the other hand your dr knows you and your history so guess it's a difficult decision....all I can say is if my fissure was healed and I wasn't in proper pain I would not touch my butt lol.

That's the issue, mypoorbutt, today was my first visit to the specialist. My GP treated me last year, but i moved since. And this time, I was referred to a corectal surgeon for tag related questions. I don't know what to do :( I'm just 25, and I don't think I'm suffering as much to require LIS.

Also, thank you for responding!! May I know what you mean my "proper pain"?

Well as to proper pain....I wouldn't have had LIS if my pain was under a 4 and only stayed for a few hours after a BM...anything less than that and I would have been inclined to give it more time. But I was still having spasms if I didn't use my medication and they can be at a 9 so I opted for LIS.
Strange they are offering it you when you don't have a fissure....I had to fight to get mine lol

He says I have a partially healed fissure. The end of the fissure leads to a tag, and the tag has the cut. The tag bleeds sometimes.. hence I wanted to get that cut. I have no pain with BM, no spasm, no issues similar to what I had when I had the fissure (felt like I was passing glass, spasm after reaching work etc etc).

So I truly don't know if I want to subject my butt to LIS. I feel like for most people it helps with pain, I'm just scared I'm going to break something that's been working fine.

I wish such decisions were easy. I don't know what's the best option for me. All I can think of is to ask the doctor once more tomorrow if I really need LIS.
