Video games and Pain Management

Postby Guest » 22 Mar 2007, 12:56

I heard an interesting story on NPR awhile back about using video games to help with pain management with children. Apparently when you are using the part of your brain to play a video game it prevents or weakens sensation to pain by distraction. I just thought I would pass this on to those suffering with pain as a way to help get through it. When my pain was at its worse I would play a computer version of Mah Jongg and it helped. There are some websites that have free computer game downloads if you don't have a video gaming system like me! Here is the link to the broadcast from NPR.

This is a very real aspect of pain management; I'm so glad you mentioned it. Back in the days of prehistory before there were effective migraine medicines, I would often play the piano. It really helps!
