These Damn Fissures :( I need support

Postby beckyvp » 16 Aug 2017, 10:04

I had an appt with a colorectal surgeon 2 weeks ago. He did a two minute check on my butt and said "yup its fissures" gave me a prescription for a special "compound" cream that cost me $40 with insurance. I've been using the cream and honestly I feel like it hasn't helped an ounce, if anything the feel worse and they are bleeding more. This has made my medical anxiety so much worse. I don't know if I should call them back or just wait it out until me 6 week follow up appointment that is already scheduled. I just dont want anal/rectal cancer and that is all I think about!

Side note: I had a colonoscopy a little over a year ago that came out clear and the general surgeon diagnosed me with fissures that were "healing" so no action was taken... I dont know what to do anymore.

Definitely call them back. Two weeks is long enough to wait for some improvement. Any chance of cancer is very very small so try not to add to your list of stressors. If you don't like your CRS then get a second opinion.
8/16-12/16: Fissure due to antibiotics
5/17: Botox to sphincter, fissure healed
9/19: Trigger point injections and pudendal nerve block
11/19: Botox to pelvic floor
8/20: Botox to pelvic floor in new location.
On and off in pelvic physical therapy

Check out Gus's post - my story. I had to add Mirilax (to soften stool) and Sudacrem for healing. HUGE improvement!

Thanks Gus. Still a work in progress, but definitely feeling better. That Sudacrem is very helpful.

I think I feel some improvement.. I just have to MAKE SURE my stool is soft or it starts all over again.

Yes, very important, soft stool. It gives the wound time to heal. Keep it up!
