Cipro & Flagyl

Postby Checkdis » 11 Apr 2018, 08:27

Hello Guys,

I am a 29 y/o male, had a LIS a while back in 12/2017 and my healing according to my CRS indicated my outer incision site healed perfectly, but my internal incision seems to have built up with a discharge of fluid. Since the surgery I have noticed some drainage that looked like puss but figured it was part of the healing process. I am not in any pain, nor have a fever, I have a little bleeding, yet my CRS thought it was best to put me on Cipro for 10 days, combined with Flagyl for 14 days. I’m at day 6 right now with the antibiotics, and feel very weak and dizzy. Appetite is not that great, and bowel movements have really increased. On top of it, my frequent urination has picked up again.

Is this a typical treatment? If this fails my CRS said he will have to reopen the wound slightly to clean out the area.

Sorry to hear that your incision isn't healing as expected. I've read on here that doctors do try antibiotics before trying something more invasive to clear an infection. In the meantime, get yourself some strong probiotics to control the increased BMs. VSL#3 is a great one, just be aware that it can cause bulky BMs. I also find Bio K probiotics very helpful. You can find the pills at whole foods.

Thank you for the reply.

I just hope I don’t have a bad G.I infection. I heard they can be nasty to get rid of.

I totally understand. For the past year and a half I've been on antibiotics on and off and they cause diarrhea without fail. Probiotics have been a life saver for me. Just keep on eye on it and ask to be tested for cdiff if you are concerned that it could be an infection.

Thank you, I will ask for a C Diff test! I really hope you get better soon, because a year plus on antibiotics is just terrible. Not to worry you but there is bacterial resistance that will eventually form.

On the plus side there are new technologies coming out that will combat this. Nanomedicine is becoming an approved treatment from the FDA.

Thanks for your concern :) What I actually meant was that I've taken short courses at various times during the past year and a half. My body would utterly revolt if I had to take long courses.

No problem, and now I understand lol.

Is it known for Cipro & Flagyl combined to cause light headed/dizzy spells?

I wouldn't know about that but it's possible for antibiotics to cause weakness because they are strong medications.

I was on cipro 500mg x 2 and Flagyl 500mg x 2 daily for almost 5 weeks.

They are awful. Loss of appetite. Weakness. Dizziness. Confusion. Intestinal irritability. Sensitivity to light. Ringing in ears. Tingling in feet.

Awful experience. It's true what they say about these antibiotics.

Two weeks after I got off my mood changed more positive appetite picked up more energy less confusion. Still have slight tingling in my feet a month later.
