Well this is fun.

Well I guess there IS an on-line community forum for everything.

I was diagnosed with an anal fissure last week after a few weeks of the pain we all know and love. Actually, my discomfort was pretty tame, compared to what I’ve read here (on a scale from 0-10 I would place it, at its most intense, at a 3.5--although it still feels like Freddy Krueger has taken up residence in my butt).

The doc prescibed protosedyl, which did nothing except burn my nether regions. Ditto Prep H and Anusol. (I do have a history of hemorrhoids so my uncharacteristic discomfort with Prep H use was diagnostic, in itself.) I had a modicum of success with a product called Hemoclin, which is basically aloe vera, and numerous butt baths with epsom salts.

The real winner was coconut oil. I bought a jar of virgin coconut oil at the health food store and it works wonders. It’s hard in the jar and softens at skin temps. No more butt burn, althought Freddy still makes an appearance at every morning bowel movement.

I think (hope) that this is an acute fissure, since the doc sees only a hairline cut--but it does have a sentinel pile on top of it (it’s an anterior fissure) so I dunno.

Anyhow, thought I’d weigh in and say howdie.

Isn't it just! I was quite surprised to first find this forum as well. And not only does it exist, it's incredibly popular and well-used. I'm sorry to hear that you're suffering though, as the rest of us have, and hope that your journey with us is a short one.

Hi Chachacha; thanks for responding! I also hope my journey is brief. My doc is giving my fissure another 3 or 4 weeks before a referral to a surgeon. It’s not getter worse (knock on wood) so I hope it gets better.

I was the only person on the planet suffering from the butt evil. Oh but I wasn't.

I've been lurking here since 2007.

That’s a long time to lurk, hurtinend. I’m glad you decided to post. Take care.
