Cannot Sit > 20-30 mins

Postby cgcaples12 » 13 Jan 2018, 18:15

Hi I have been dealing with this for a little over a month now. I sit all day at work and I got to a point where the pain was so bad I just couldn't do another day and I feel like the sitting was making the fissure worse. I have been out of work for almost a week now and have been dieting for about 3 weeks and using nitro for 1 week. I cannot sit for more than 20-30 minutes or my pain becomes an 8 out of 10 pressure type pain. I can stand walk around okay lately although I used to to feel a scratchy mild pain when I walked too much, but that seems to have subsided since the nitro. I have to wait another week to see a CRS. Does this sound normal for a healing anal fissure? I feel like I am getting better, but I am scared of losing my job currently trying to get an accommodation standing desk so I can work. I have panic disorder and the pain activates that unfortunately. Thanks for any replies.

cgcaples12,
I exactly have this accumulating sitting pain as you described. It's been a long time but any update you could share. Hope you've fully healed by now.

Yes it's perfectly normal if you have a fissure. You need to get up and move around and don't sit more than 15 to 20 minutes. I get up and stretch several times an hour. I also use a donut cushion while driving and at work.

I also want to mention the importance of sitz baths. Every night after work I sit in tub filled with hot water for 10 minutes before applying my ointment. It helps with the irritation.. I too am going to CS to inquire about surgery next week. All the ointments can take up to 6 weeks before you see an improvement.

Does your employer offer FMLA leave? I'm currently on it for my fissure and I can use it to take time off with no disciplinary consequences.

I was about to say, you are using a donut while you drive after a few years? Glad you are talking to a surgeon to possibly get the surgery. If you ask me, do it and get on with your life donut free!

You mention sitz baths. The best thing I did was buy one that sits on the toilet. It's WAY easier that the tub and more comfortable unless you like bathtubs daily.

I was having muscle spasms (levator ani I believe) along with the fissure that evenutally felt like I was always sitting on a golf ball. It was so bad and annoying. Once I quit my job in early 2016 that muscle spasm was gone. It was all stress. For the next 4 1/2 years it was easy to sit on anything after that even if the fissure pain was a solid 7. I simply got used to being in pain and accepted it. On most days the pain would be around 3-5. The only time it was a solid 8-10 was during a BM sometimes. So anything after that was an improvement! I took the smallest victories.

Does the LIS surgery work? I had mine in October 2020 and have been normal ever since. Remember normal? No ointments, no creams, no witch hazel, no wipes, no medications, no nothing but a BM! Get the LIS and you'll be loving life.
