Fissures causing skin problem/Skin problem causing fissures?

Postby jay2502 » 24 May 2015, 11:23

i am off to see a Dermatologist in June. it seems the CRS i saw believes i have some sort of 'skin condition' down there (god only knows what a Dermatologist is going to do :dunno: )

his trail of thinking is, that i have a skin condition which is causing all the 'tears' . it does get very red and sore down there, and every week there is a different degree of 'redness', some weeks its not so bad, some weeks it flares up like fire red.

now i have had the 'fissure' issue for years, and i cant be 100% but i am sure i had pain for quite a while before i even noticed any problem visibly. from what i remember it started off looking completely normal down there but i just had alot of pain. and the redness and disturbed skin did not come till later on.

so i ask, is this skin condition thing just a load of nonsense? and the reason i am red down there is because of the inflamation from the fissures rather than the skin causing the fissures. i hope this makes sense :ashamed:

I completely understand and I know where you are coming from!!! I've looked after people with the same issue, some issues can be bacterial/yeast based and some may be a condition of friable skin where it's more prone to abrasion and tears causing inflamation. Have you ever tried any OTC meds like Canestan Cream? It helped me a bunch.

keep us posted, our dermatology waiting lists here in the UK are 18 weeks + !!!

My CRS suggested a dermatologist for me too as I can't seem to heal normally down there. It's 6 months after my LIS and over 3 since the fistulotomy and I am still not healed and very sore. I am thinking maybe I should see if that could be helpful. I guess you never know.
Dec '13 Fissure from anoscope
3 X internal sphincter botox
'08-'15 Botox for pelvic floor dysfunction
Nov '14 LIS/sentinel tag removal
Feb '15 Deroofing of recurrent infection from LIS
summer '15-healed but still ongoing muscle dysfunction/pain

I am very curious about this as well. I'm definitely inflamed, chafed, sensitive--so much more after starting nitroglycerin. I actually finished a week of fluconazole (thrush/yeast med, taken orally). No improvement in my skin, so I wonder about an allergy.

I had my dermo appointment last week (it got brought forward)
he gave me steroid cream (with an antifungal) I was dubious about this as I have seen so many times that it's not good to use steroid cream down there , and a couple of years ago I was prescribed it 3 times by a doctor ! :silent:

I also got prescribed a tub of parrafin liquid , which is like very runny Vaseline , which I have to apply everyday as and when it gets dry . So basically it always needs to be wet down there.

He said I did not have a 'fissure' but had 'fissuring' I'm so confused . And today I can't sit still as the 'fissure' in the cleft Part of my buttocks has flared up chronically (it does this now and again) I feel like it needs to be cut along and sewn up again. .. is that possible ?!

It's almost 8 years now. Can I have an update? I'm having some similar issues, the proctologist saying it's not a classic fissure, prescribing corticosteroids, thinking maybe it's an allergy,...
