New around here. Seeking support and advice

Postby AngusMacguffin77 » 16 Oct 2024, 08:42

Hi All,
I've been suffering from anus pain for several weeks now, and just wanted to see if other folks have had similar experiences and if anyone has any advice for healing!

I'm a 47yo male. For the last few years I've was ignoring some digestive issues, mostly lactose intolerance. This meant I was using the toilet 4-5 times a day sometimes. I was also using a bidet to avoid any TP abrasions. I didn't think this could cause a problem, until the severe burning pain started up about 7 weeks ago. After ignoring it for a while, I finally realized the constant pooping and spraying with water had caused an anal fissure. I changed my diet and stopped with the bidet, but I'm still experiencing intermittent pain that is very difficult to control.

I've been to a doctor, who's diagnosed the fissure, and gave me the diltiazem ointment. I can't tell if it's helping or not. It's hard to tell if it's healing or getting worse. The pain will flare up at seemingly random times and will not always respond to any treatment. Sitz baths and heating pad do provide some relief, but I wonder if I could be doing something else.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? I know most folks have the opposite issue as far as being able to poop, so please let me know if someone has any advice or counsel. Thanks!

Hi Angus, I just saw that no one had responded to you. How are you doing?

Since your doc has diagnosed the fissure, at least there's not a question of WHAT the problem is. Diltiazem is a pretty standard approach. When it works, it still takes time. Any improvement by now (6 weeks after you posted)?

Cheers

Hi,
Thanks for the response! Yes I've seen some improvement over the last several weeks. The heating pad proved to be very helpful for pain management and healing -- I just had to sit on it for several hours a day. I don't have nearly as much pain now, and now it's mostly severe itchiness which is distracting and annoying, but way better than the pain. And also encouraging because I think it means I'm healing. I see the doc in a few days so I'll have another opinion and see where to go from there. Thanks again for getting back to me and helping me cope with this annoying injury!
