Ensure or Boost

Postby cherylk » 18 Jun 2008, 07:03

Guys and gals,
It is a beautifully sunny day in the Midwest and I am still on cloud nine after one of my docs called me yesterday in response to a letter I wrote to him. I may be returning to Mayos and have an anorectal manometry test. This tests would require the insertion of a balloow which is inflated. Evidently, the test is not all that uncomfortable. There is a possiblity I may be able to get off of Miralax if we can identify what my type of constipation is.
Also I am considering trying Boost or Ensure to try to add some extra calories. I realize at my age this is quite unusual to want to put on some extra pounds, and when I was overweight a few decades ago, I never would have dreamed that I would ever be wanting to put on some pounds. I think Boost or Ensure might be milk based, so I don't know if either of them would be constipating. My guess no one here has tried either product, but I won't know unless I inquire of the group. I feel really strange because most people my age are trying to lose weight, but those people no doubt do not have my same digestive issues (i.e. they can eat anything). We need to keep in mind our friends Lecia and BA right now.
To health improvements for all,
Cheryl

Actually several of us have tried the products. I like the butter pecan ensure and drink it every night. I think they are soy-based. Seems to keep my stools very soft but still formed, too. Not just for geriatrics anymore!

Gosh, I never dreamed anyone here would have tried Boost or Ensure!! I am assuming Ensure is not milk-based or at least does not cause constipation as I know no one here would want that prob!! I shared with Dwight that I am now a VIP. I think I will post a pic of me while on an Alaskan cruise a few years ago.
To health,
Cheryl

I know that soy is used in making them. Whether there is any lactose involved, I can't say as I don't have a bottle in front of me.
But there is always...:google:
I'm still surprised that you think no one here has tried them...its a great source of nutrition and the companies are hawking the products to a younger, on the go crowd. I actually take fewer supplements now that I drink the stuff, as food-based nutrition is better than a pill...

I used boost after my last surgeries when I couldn't handle solids. And also after my last baby was born to get extra calories while nursing.
I love it on the rocks!

I bet there are better ones out there though with more protein and less sugar. You do look very tiny.

Guys,
Thanks for all of the feedback. Actually, I am thinner now than in that pic. I have a small bone structure, so have always been on the slim side except when I gained in college by discovering German chocolate cake, and eating double dip ice cream cones and lots of desserts, and thinking about FOOD at all times (compulsive eating). Also gained while working in Estes Park sometimes eating a couple of servings of Boston Cream pie which we served in our dining room. I wish I still had some pictures of me when I was fat because no one believes me when I tell them I was that way. I think I will try some Ensure; I didn't know Ensure helps with the bowels/digestive tract, does it???
Cheryl
P.S. I tell myself that is one reason I cannot hit the golf ball further because I am a small person, but if I get my timing right, I think I can compensate for my size somewhat.
