You may well be compromised at that area your entire life. I think that is why a large hard stool will sometimes give me a speck or two of blood. But now you know about diet and hydration and not straining and many other ways to prevent a future fissure.
Blood is scary, but once you realize what is actually going on down there, you relax and stop worrying.
Yep, your incident sounds just like what I have had happen. the important thing you no longer have the pain and spasms!! THAT is the key, AND you are looser.. Image

Jen,
i wouldn't worry about that. it's only 3 weeks.
at the 3 week point, I hadn't really felt any healing.
but at the 7 mos point, I am having normal bm. It just takes time. 3 weeks is not nearly long enough to heal.
You should expect minor damage anytime for the next 6 mos, I'm sorry to say.

Thanks BG - That is actually very reassuring. It is just hard to understand when so many people heal and have zero problems after surgery. Today honestly was "minor damage" too.

Jen, it could be for even longer! I had mine in january and I still have flare ups and little issues from time to time. After the shock of it happening the first time ( i thought after the op, everything would be fine forever as i felt so good!!), i kinda got used to the fact and stopped freaking out about it. If something different happens i still have a freak-out, but most of the time i just accept it. I think with all the butt problems we've all had, we know when something more sinister is going on, and we know the symptoms we shouldnt ignore. And theres always someone here who has been there done that and worn the tee shirt !
So please calm down! :)

jen - you're so lucky the LIS is even working for you! don't worry so much about a little blood as long as you're not having the pain!

Thanks for asking Corsi!! Image
Sorry I have been MIA guys! I have spent 2 long weeks studing my butt off for midterms since my butt had me slacking off all semester. It paid off because I got a 91% on my peds exam and a 98% on my OB exam. I am half way done with the semester and then it is off to Hawaii over Thanksgiving break after finals! Image
I had just that one setback since LIS. It was at 3 weeks post op. I was so depressed when it happened I thought I would just die. I am hoping it won't happen again. I have an appointment with my CRS to get his opinion on October 6th. Things have been painfree for 2 weeks.
I did a search on yahoo for unsuccessful LIS procedures and found a girl who had LIS and did not heal for 3 months. She said that what finally healed her was Benefiber so I am giving that a try. I am using Benifiber now and then I am switching to metamucil to see which I like better. I have also been taking my mag pills and my valerian herb at night. Things are not that bad right now as long as I can prevent another setback.

Jen,
You sound positive. Congrats on your good scores!!! Just think what you will score on gastro exam. You will no doubt get extra credit and be above 100%. Glad you have been feeling better!!

Cheryl -
LOL!!! We actually had a few questions on the test today for Nifedipine and I chuckled to myself. Those questions were easy for me! :)
