a dumb question but has anyone attempted to actually check out their fissure in a mirror and is this a bad thing to do as you may aggravate it? When i am hurt i tend to want to check out the wound. but i am not sure it is a good idea.

I was tempted but never did, Eric. But I can't imagine how it could hurt, unless you were somehow "rough" with yourself. All the anatomy charts I've seen showed the site of the fissure as close tot he opening of the anus..

I was tempted to but I was too afraid to. I guess if you are brave enough, why not?

I not only looked at it i had photos taken and a short film taken on my video camera. When i brought in my laptop to the CRS he scheduled me for surgery immediately after my video presentation. I also drawed a cartoon scetch of it to help me tell him where to look. It eased my mind to see it is such a small tear.....yet it feels like the grand canyon on steroids.
