Surgery Tomorrow---How did you facilitate healing?

Postby Jchem1 » 24 Jun 2010, 12:23

I am scheduled for LIS tomorrow morning. I've about had enough and need to get "normal" life back on track.
I wanted to query the group and ask what specific things did each who have had LIS do post-op to facilitate healing as soon as possible?
-Rest, I assume (How long)
-Diet, Vitamins, supplements?
-Exercise (whenever this becomes possible)
-Anyone still use creams, ointments for the fissure/wound to try and speed recovery (Vitamin E, Aloe, etc.)
Thanks in advance for your input!

I was told it would take 2-3 weeks to recover, so I put aside a week and a half to just LIE AROUND and rest -- at which time I went back to work. If I had not yet mostly recovered by then, though, I would have taken longer.
I avoided sitting on me arse during that time, and kept using my diltiazem for one month, and also my stool softener (liquid colace) for a month. The reason I stopped after a month was that I was no longer in any kind of pain by then, and felt I needed to start re-regulating my GI system to "normal" mode.
If I were you, I'd stay on whatever diet is working (generally, the AF diet, eh?) for at least six months to a year, until your membranes are *completely* healed (yes it takes that long to regain real integrity down there!).
I kept taking hot soaking baths during that month of healing post-op..
Hope this helps! :)

Doh! Image I stopped using the diltiazem right after surgery, as per my surgeon's instruction, but did keep using the colace for about a month. OK, it was 4 years ago, gimme a break! :)

No worries Kim---brain freezes are a daily occurrence in my household :D
Thanks for the info. I thought so much of course about diet, etc, since I won't be gobbling down any bangers and mash 3x/day anytime soon. Good advice to keep with this and avoid relapse. So seems like about two weeks and you were good to go---this time frame seems pretty standard for an "uncomplicated" surgery.
Thanks again! Any other takers, please weigh in.....I will post a post-op when I am next at the computer after tomorrow
