it seems if we dont loose weight on the high fibre, we loose weight if we need to be on our feet for comfort so either way we loose weight which i needed to do but not in these cicumstances, it has really been forced upon me due to not dareing to eat anything other than high fibre!! .i find no matter how i sit , stand, sleep, i,am not getting comfy no matter what i do. [oh! for a full nights sleep!] xx

Hey BB, I did have a reaction to the diltiazem after about 3 months of use. I had some itching and burning and started to get a rash. I tried to limit my use of it in the end before my surgery.
I didn't take valium while having my fissure but did get some after my LIS because I did experience some spasms after my surgery. It worked really well so if any of you guys are able to get a prescription while having your fissure, I'd definitely give it a try. I took 5mgs for about a week and then cut the pills in half after that.

Hey evie,
I was so scared to eat with my fissure. I didn't want to get too much fiber because I tried to only have one bm a day. I was scared to eat anything that didn't have fiber when I did eat. It was a job to try and find things to eat! I lost so much weight and had days when I felt so weak from not getting enough calories.
I know what you mean about finding a comfortable position. I leaned back on my lower back with a heating pad under me most of the time.

evie,
I hope you can find some new foods that agree with you! It really does get old eating the same old things. I'm still sticking with my diet since LIS. I just eat a little of the foods I wouldn't have before. I still don't eat red meat, cheese, sharp foods like chips...But I eat a lot more of what I can eat now, plus I actually feel like cooking the foods I can eat. I have gained 20 lbs back but I think I really needed too. I looked pretty thin. I'm 40 years old and 112 lbs looked very poor on me. :) That was a weight I'd die for in my 20's and 30's but just didn't look too good this time around, lol

hi, dawn i too am eating a lot of the good foods ,but, i really dont want to put the lost weight back on as like i said before ineeded to loose weight anyway! and i,am looking forward to some fish dishes soon and more chicken with pulses maybe! i will have to get into the swing of this fibre diet as my previous diet was the sea food diet {see food and eat it lol} so i,am still adjusting but, i know i HAVE TO do it or suffer, and, i dont intend to do that as i hope this fissure is on the mend and as someone apptly described it as" the dreaded dragon" i dont want a re=apperance of that dragon. speak soon xx

The sticky at the top of this forum has really brought to my attention the diet thing as well. I mean, I eat plenty of fiber and I understand why no popcorn (although if someone sets a bowl of it in front of me I'm going to have some, fissure be damned). What I didn't realize was that you should cook your apples! and no raw vegetables? I love certain vegetables raw. This situation is terrible. Apparantly I've been eating wrong too, even though I'd swear my diet is healthy.

Hey Strawberry,
It's crazy what you have to avoid eating with a fissure that would otherwise be really healthy. Some say that eating the raw vegetables have caused problems. I tried to avoid anything raw and not cooked to a mush. Some have said even the whole wheat pasta causes harder bm's. I had a terrible episode after eating nuts and some baked chips. After that I just avoided anything that could possibly cause firmer stools. I can't really say if the raw veggies would have been an issue because I was scared to try...but without a doubt the nuts, chips or anything sharp caused the shards of glass feeling.

Evie,I had brown rice for the first time yesterday, wasn't that impressed with it but it went through ok;) I don't eat raw veg, I just go by the maxim that if it is hard going in it will probably be hard coming out, and if its spicy going in it may well be hotter coming out. I have had small amounts of chicken with no side effects but Dairy and red meat give me problems.I think you will have to do trial and error, but don't try nuts! xxxxxxxxx
