It itches!!!!

Postby callmecrazy » 23 Jan 2011, 23:59

Hi all! Some of you may have read on the other board that I had surgery a little over a week ago. I had an LIS and Anolplasty. My surgery involved A LOT of stitches. Now, those stitches are starting to heal and I'm having HORRIBLE itching that for obvious reasons, I can't scratch! Has anyone experienced this? Are there any suggestions?
I've tried the sitz bath, but that almost makes it itch more. I know it's not from uncleanliness, and I am certain it's the stitches because both the stitches and the itching extend a few inches in both directions from my rectum. The only relief I get is when my pain pills kick in, but I'm trying to scale back on those as it stands since I should be returning to work on Friday.
Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Oh dear, sorry to hear you're getting the itchies. There are oral medications you can take for itching, try giving a call to your doc's office, here in the U.S. we have Atarax. I don't know about home remedies, maybe someone here can chime in.
Good luck!

love atarax - aka hydroxizine. that is my substitute for valium if i ever need to chill out. it also was given to me to control itchiness if i break out in hives or a lite allergic reaction that induces itching.
hope you are feeling less itchy today callmecrazy!
hugs,
happy

Sometimes Balneol might be soothing (and help with the itch) to the area.

I called the CRS this morning. The nurse called me back within minutes to get more details. She suggested in the meantime to place cotton or gauze between my cheeks to keep the stitches from poking. She's going to talk to the doc today and discuss what I can do - either topical cream or oral meds - and call me back. I'll update with what he says when she calls.
For now, I'm staying on the pain meds to survive not wanting to take a bottle-brush wrapped in sand paper to my rear end!
