I survived the surgery!

Postby alpinestrawberry » 23 Mar 2011, 20:19

I did it!
With a lot of drugs that helped me 'time travel' right through it.
I had these hideous blue shorts on, and the last thing I remember, they were saying to me it was time to get them off...and I said, I haven't had enough versed to be comfortable with you taking those off me. And the next thing I remember, I woke up in the recovery room, in NO PAIN! I had to ask to be sure they actually did it. Trust me, I'm in enough pain NOW to know that they did. I literally don't remember a thing about the surgery. I don't remember seeing the surgeon at all, and if it weren't for the pain in my ass I'd insist he wasn't even there today.
All in all it was a great experience, the hospital staff were all so nice...there just wasn't much privacy there, quite different from my sinus surgery where I had my own room and even my own bathroom. But the hospital was very clean and I was in and out quickly, and made it home before 5:00. I got the packing out, it was causing a lot of unnecessary pain if you ask me! I've been bleeding but lightly. I do have some stitches that I wasn't expecting, I guess he did an open LIS rather than a closed procedure after all. Not sure why, I didn't get to ask him....probably because he wasn't even there, I swear.
I'm hoping for a great long-term outcome...but if I do need a second surgery, it wouldn't be a big deal. Really! At least the procedure itself is fine...haven't had that first BM. Of course that's the next hurdle and I'm pretty nervous about it. I've got lots of narcotics and Miralax to help it along, though.

YES! So glad it went well, and that was a pretty funny way to get more versed! Image
Now, while you're all drugged up, remember to take it easy, even though you are feeling good. Pamper yourself, and rest, and do all the good things to create an optimum butt-healing environment. I hope your family will be waiting on your for a couple of days! Image
Give us updates on how you are doing!

Thanks again guys!
Cagirl, I was thinking the same thing...where is everyone? It's so quiet around here you can hear the crickets chirping. Sadly, I think Dawn is gone for good...all her old posts just say 'guest' now instead of her name. I know she mentioned feeling like it was about time to move on. I guess that is the goal, to get healed up and move on, but it's begun to feel like you guys are family! Even my most sympathetic family members haven't been through this and probably don't want to hear me prattle on about my butt.
Elphie, you'll do just fine for the surgery. Take someone with you that you're comfortable with...I was glad I had my aunt with me instead of my husband, really...she was more fun to joke around with and she's had some horrendous hemorrhoids so was more able to sympathize than my hubby. And don't be afraid to ask for drugs. I insisted on them ASAP and they didn't have a problem giving them to me. Versed is great stuff, it relaxes you and it wipes your memory. I love not remembering anything about the surgery. I don't know what position they had me in, how long it took, nothing, and that is a-okay with me.
Well, it's day #2 and my butt hurts. I have no idea when I'll have a BM, I had to drink a bottle of mag citrate to prep for surgery, and I went 30 hours without eating, so I think it could be awhile. They want me to drink another bottle of citrate if I go 3 days without a BM, to which I say hell no. I'm definitely not incontinent...no trouble holding back the gas, so that's good news, but on the other hand...I hope he cut enough muscle to do the trick... Image
I feel like the support I've gotten here really carries me through these tough times, so Image Image Image

So pre op appt was easy but it took 4 hrs in many uncomfortable chairs, asked alot of questions, I met the surgery nurse who will b with me and the drug doc who was really cool, took my blood pressure etc... Gave me my instructions...
I have to have only clear liquids after a light breakfast morning before then fleet enema before bed and another in the morning. I also have to shower with microbial soap, unscented shampoo no hair gunk which basically means I'll look like an electrocuted poodle!
I had to confessy recent illicit drug use which was kinda wierd for me but they took it in stride. Lol! My bff is still laughing about that!
I'm so glad your surgery is behind u, no pun intended lol, and that u r well enuf to be online already, do u have any fissure pain at all or just general surgery pain? How was the drive home? I live an hour away so I'm concerned about that! I've told my husband he will have to run the show for awhile after he just wants it over too.
I did asked my husband if he would mind if my best friend takes me and he said he wants to take me and wouldn't want anyone else doing it so whatever. He's been away for work for a week and won't b home for another week I'll really miss him by then! He also won't care if I weep all the way home, he's used to it now, I do it everytime! Except for that time with the botox, that was the best twelve hrs ever...but I paid lol I paid...
Well, keep us posted I'm happy u r ok, gives me hope!

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Glad to hear you made it through the surgery unscathed ... Well, except for that one area anyway!
I hope the butt pain isn't too bad and that you've got your feet up.
Don't stress about that first BM, or anything else for that matter. As you know, this surgery has a really, very high success rate, so odds are you're going to recover quick and get on with your life.
Happy for you!
You're right too ... It has been really quite around here of late!

Elphie, I do think my husband might have felt a little shut out when I took my aunt with me instead, but it made more sense...he stayed home and managed all the kids that day, since he knows their schedules and where to pick them up/drop off etc. My aunt lives three hours away and would have needed detailed written instructions to manage them like that.
He gets all the pleasure of hearing me complain about my butt pain now though... :) Which, to answer your question, is all from the surgery. I had my fissure pain totally beaten with Miralax prior to surgery. That made it harder to accept, mentally, that I was going to have pain where before I had none...but I've been around the bend with these damn fissures and I wasn't going to let them trick me again.
I hope I do well...I worry when I read about others' experiences that didn't go so smooth. I just hope it heals without incident, no infections, no weird tissue cropping up...I am a worrier. But the nurses at the hospital all kept telling me how much they love working with my surgeon, and how his patients tend to do very very well, so I'll try to keep positive thoughts rolling.
And thank you Sphinct! How are you feeling? Have you seen the therapist yet for the PFD? I wonder if I might have some degree of PFD too, it's pretty common for women who've given birth, so it wouldn't surprise me. Well I hope you're feeling better, no fissure pain at least!

Hey Alp,
Thanks for asking! It's been up and down for me of late, but I do feel like I'm on the right track with the pelvic floor retraining. I had my first session with the specialist yesterday. As it turns out, my pooping technique is a bit crap! HA! :D

It has also become apparent during the past week that my difficulty in healing may stem from a previously misdiagnosed neurological condition. I'm trying a drug called Levo Dopa, which is usually prescribed for Parkinson's. It's possible that things will improve quite quickly, so we'll see! My problems may be a little more complicated than just Anal Fissure. As if that wasn't enough! Fingers crossed!
I'm sure that you will heal up just fine. Most people do seem to have at least a couple of issues along the way though, so I guess you have to expect to have one or two ups and downs.
I hope that the pain isn't too bad and that you've been given large quantities of narcotics to help if it is!

So, are you taking it easy today? Babying the butt? Hope so! It has been quiet - or at least it feels like a lot of the regulars who were here for a long time before us have not been around. I think that once you don't have to focus on your butt and think about it 24 hours a day like you used to, then you end up finding a whole lot of pleasure in focussing on other things. Well, probably both pleasure and necessity. Other areas of your life suffer when all that attention goes to your butt. It's both a sad and glad situation when some of the oldies aren't around....
Anyway - here's to your new life Alpine!
