What is the best fiber supplement?

Postby Guest » 29 Aug 2007, 05:51

The CRS told me the best was Konsyl Easy Mix or simply eat 1/2 cup of All Bran Bran Buds each day. Dairy doesn't seem to bother me, so I have been eating the Bran Buds, bud I hate eating the same thing every day. The 1/2 cup of cereal is 20 grams of fiber. Is this enough?
When I went to a gastro, she said use Benefiber plus continue the cereal. I am doing great on the cereal alone and have not added the Benefiber.
What supplement are you using?
Thanks,
Jennie

My fiber supplements are fresh fruits and vegetables. Whole grain bread and cereal. Nature's fiber.
Ok, it's not a supplement, but you get my point. If you eat right, you'll get plenty of fiber along the way.
When I had my fissure, I did supplement with citrucel.

Konsyl is great! That really gets things going in the right direction. I used to add that into smoothies but you have to drink it quickly or it congeals. I never found that benefiber helped much-maybe because it is all soluble rather than both.
I know I have mentioned this on half a dozen threads so bear with me-I like Fibermucil because it has soluble and insoluble fiber plus acidophilis. You can check it on online at www.procapslabs.com

I don't think you are doing anything wrong! My only recommendation is to take omega oils to help keep it slippery but it seems like most of us have this situation or maybe it feels rough because our butts are sensitive.

Thank you, Lecia! You know, I have read about those all over this forum. I guess its time to try the fish oils and flax oils.

Starting the oils was like a butt epiphany for me. It makes all the difference plus essential fatty acids are healthy and well, essential!

Magnesium seems to be helping me also. I take 250mg twice a day.

I have managed the hard tipped poos by eating something fibrous and watery for breakfast, usually grapefruit. I figured that since breakfast sits in my intestines the longest (I am a morning bmer) it tend to get the most dehydrated, so I need something that even when dehydrated is soft and passable. Citrus seems to work for me. So does pea soup.

Yes, look up BG's peasoup on the AF recipe thread. Might be time for me to whip up a batch!
