Is it normal to have red blood in stools?

Postby Guest » 04 Sep 2007, 09:34

This is kind of embarrasing, but I just went to the bathroom, and my stools were red-ish in color. I have been taking 4 advil twice a day for two days.
Stool softeners do not help me.... and I cannot take fiber in a liquid b/c I choke on it.
I see my family doc today... but I am afraid she will send me to my GI doc... and he is an ass. Funny thing-- his last name is Colon. HAHA!
Anyway, I am worried about this... but I just wondered if any of you have experieced this.
Have any of you tried something called Annutabs? I found the site online... and they claim they can heal you in a month.... but the tabs are 160.00.
Thank you-

Don't get embarrassed around us-you should see some of the things I have asked on here! Is your stool completely red or you see some streaks of red? I have had red in my stools for a week from bleeding inside the anus. I think as long as it is bright it is new blood from the anus and not from further up which can be more serious. Are you making sure to have something in your stomach when you take the advil?
Stool softeners do not help me.... and I cannot take fiber in a liquid b/c I choke on it. What about Miralax or Milk of Magnesia-have you tried those?
I can't drink fiber in liquid either so I would take Psyllium capsules and drink a lot of water with it.

I see my family doc today... but I am afraid she will send me to my GI doc... and he is an ass. Funny thing-- his last name is Colon. HAHA!
Too funny! I would seriously drive a little further if it meant I could see someone I was comfortable with. I think it is time to see a CRS.

I don't know anything about it but that sure seems like a lot of money. What is in them?

What is a CRS? Are they Gastroenterologists?
It is bright red and streaked..... not black blood....
the annutabs contain
Camphor
Menthol
Oleum anisi
Oleum eucalypti
Oleum pine
Thymol
Tincture Zingiber
I know this sounds bad... but an old lady who has a bad fissure told me to use vicks vapor rub... but only on the outside. It really helps with pain.

totally no need to be embarrassed. I'm to the point where I drop trau for anyone who says they're a CRS (just kidding but you get the point). Besides, the more detail you can provide for your CRS, the better s/he will be able to assess the situation and determine what might help you.

Also, bright red blood in stools means the bleeding is close to the exit and not in your intestines, which means it is likely the fissure bleeding.

Also, someone mentioned botox to you. I had great luck with botox. what I am dealing with now is the remained of a hemmie, which I got just before the injection and which got irritated by the injections.

I can sympathize witht the burning. I get that too. Drives me insane.

I have found a couple of ways to combat it though. Maybe they'll work for you.

1) I use a needless syringe (come with some rectal prescriptions or can be found at pet store--used for feeding birds medicines) and inject vitamin E oil. I used the kind that's been cut with safflower oil, as too much vit E can be irritating.

2) I have decided to OD on EFAs. I am taking 3 Tablespoons of flax oil per day (one with each meal). I am also drinking flax seeds. I pour boiling hot water over about 1 1/2 T of flax seeds and let them steep. They let out this gooey mucous which is supposed to be good for digestion and caoting stools. Started two days ago and had a good (as in relatively painless) poo this morning, so it may be working.

3)don't irritate the area with too much attention

4)stopped taking MOM because it was irritating the area a bit. Switched over to Mineral oil.

A CRS is a colo-rectal surgeon so they specialize in conditions of the colon and rectum.
Your stool sounds like mine. It seems to be related to the fissure. And often just a little bit of blood looks like a lot in the toilet.
You know, Happyass, one of our boardies here, swears by Vicks Vapor rub for anal skin tags. I don't know about a fissure itself but I am up for trying things at least once.
Are the annutabs suppositories or do you ingest them? It sounds like what is in Vicks vapor rub to me. They all have cooling properties which could be soothing-I don't know about healing properties though.
