I've already had 2 hemroidectomies & a fissurectomy ( about 20 yrs ago) I'm now once again suffering with an AF. I can not bring myself to go to a CRS. The thought of a rectal exam sends my ars into spasms. Then I know he'll want me to have a colonoscopy----OUCH!!! How does anyone with a fissure endure the pain of these 2 necessary exams? How can these exams not cause more damage to an already cut & sore area? Any suggestions??

If you have one exam that diagnoses the fissure, there is (perhaps) no reason to have the colonoscopy until later, after the fissure heals (provided you have surgery of course), unless there is some other underlying urgency for the coloscopy.

Also, all the CRS's I have seen in the group locally here have always been very gentle in the exam and showed empathy. So I think it all depends on the CRS.

What was your fissure surgery like? I am dreading the CRS on Thursday. I have what I think is a reopening of a past fissure. So much blood. Not a lot of pain per say just a little discomfort. The blood freaked me out. I dread that I might have to undergo the surgery

Hi Rosey---My fissure surgery was over 20 years ago & thankfully just a faint memory. The worst part is waiting for your 1st bm---OMG. It wasn't as bad as it was scarey.
I too had a HUGE bleed this past Sat.--Clots & all. But minimal pain---I've been pretty much pain free & NO BLOOD since. I'm thinking it might have been a hemmroid that exploded--HOPEFULLY!! I have a Dr appointment 8/18 & I'm dreading it -- I just feel that a rectal exam just undoes the healing. I know I'll have to have a colonoscopy soon after as well. Its just so painful & humiliating. I wish you a pain free day!

Rosey- the surgery isn't as bad as you probably think. I had it last year and it was much easier than having the fissure. Hang in there! Don't let the blood freak you out too much. It's really common with fissures.

Thank you for the Hugs. I just don't remember in the past so much blood. That is what is freaking me out. I can't focus or do much of anything. I've been in bed all day feeling so down. Thank goodness for my little dog. He is the only comfort I have during this time. I am SCARED beyond words

I know it's scary Rosey. Try and not let your thoughts run wild. Some folks have had what seemed to be a large amount of blood. When I first got my fissure- I bled once just passing gas and that really freaked me out because I hadn't been diagnosed yet. A million things ran through my mind. I was actually happy to get my fissure diagnosis- crazy! I know how you feel :(
